Hi All, what are the pro's and con's of the Kenko x3 Telephus besides no AF and loosing the extra stops?

No pros, all cons, worst piece of junk ever produced, better sellotaping a magnifying glass to the end of your lens

Cheers Gary, I will be a fool not to take your word, a rather strong message came through.... Mark

I'm with Gary above.

Tried one of these a couple of years ago, could not get AF with any lens/body combination (even those that should have done so in theory) and my MFing images were very poor.

Personally, I would not touch one again at any price.

another plusone here - hideous piece of junk, if you really must go to x3 better results were acheived stacking my 1.4x and 2x - although in all honesty i don't recomend doing that either - with modern sensor resolutions you'd be better off using a 2x or a 1.4 seperately then cropping in post

Never knew that anyone made a 3x converter. Always thought that going up to 2x was pushing the boat out.
Quite taken aback at the test shots in that review. Reviewer is Will Cheung who is highly regarded.

Yeah!

Only thing is, there's no real use for it...

Having said that, putting it on a 200mm f2.8 would bring it to f8 which cameras now can af with and if sharp wide open, would give a 600mm AF f8.

I'd be comfortable with that in decent light.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the link, a but strange that the review is so good but others think it is a waist of metal. I suppose every one is entitled to their own opinion.

It's not very often you can accept a 6 stop loss of light to get optimum performance from the TC. Especially for camera's with lower ISO performance and for the types of subjects you need long lenses.

For my use, it doesn't matter how good/bad a TC is, 6 stops of light are too many to sacrifice

Hi Gary, you tell me it's a heap of Cr#p, and then you tell me to buy one ? I'm with you on this one not against you!
