Hi everyone I am thinking of getting a Kenko teleconverter either a
Kenko Teleplus AF 1.4x Extender Pro-300 DG for Nikon AF
or a
Kenko Teleplus DGX 2X Pro-300 Converter for Nikon.
I want to know if they will they work with my Nikon 70-300 lens
How many F stops will I loose ?

Up to 2 stops.

The 70-300 isn't really suitable for TC's though.

(why are you shouting, btw? ;) )

Copied and pasted and the font changed can't seem to change it back .....

You'll lose 1 stop with a 1.4x and 2 stops with a 2x teleconverter. I have a kenko dgx pro 300 and have used it with a tamron 70-200 f2.8vc (becomes f5.6) and 70-300 f4-5.6vc (becomes f8-11) .It works much better on the 70-200 (no surprise there) but can still autofocus (on a canon 7d) at 300mm if there's a good light source. For general use the 1.4x will work better unless you really need the 2x magnification. If you get a kenko 1.4 then make sure it's the dgx rather than dg.

Just ordered a Kenko 1.4x to use with Canon 70-300L on 7D. Will be interesting to see how it performs?

This was with my 70-300 VR and a kenko 1.4.

Nikon 70-300VR + kenko 1.4

It worked but for me, it wasn't quick enough and hunted so I sold up. With a 2.0 I suspect you'd never use it after testing

I thought the 7d would only AF on lenses with a max aperture do f5.6, therefore the 70-300 wouldn't AF with a 2x and only at 70mm with a 1.4x.

How does the 70-200 fair with a 1.4x, I I don't think it worked with converters. I have one and with just upgrading to ff, was interested as a way to get back some of the crop factor. Any pics?

You won't be disappointed it's a great combo and iq is still very good.

I don't think the kenko tc's report everything to the camera, as I thought the same about the 7d. The correct info is in the exif though. AF was quite slow though and did need good light.

I don't have a 1.4x tc, just the kenko 2x. I'm holding out for a good deal on a 1.4. The 2x works fine with the tamron 70-200vc on both 7d and 5d2. There were some tests of angry birds (kids soft toys) I took with the 2x/70-200vc/5d2 on my Flickr page.

My Kenko DGX 1.4X Pro-300 Converter arrived this morning so I immediately stuck it on my Canon 7D with 70-300L. Seems to work fine although it does struggle a bit to focus at 300mm (f8). It does focus but definitely hunts a bit first. Too early to comment on image quality though.

I've got a Canon MkIII 2x converter which works brilliantly but I have a Kenko Pro300 DGX 1.4x and I can't fault it. It works with most if not all of my lenses and gives me great IQ without a huge loss in AF speed. I was debating getting the Canon MkIII 1.4x as well but the Kenko is so good it wouldn't be worth the extra money for the Canon for me. The Kenko is a great bit of kit.

I have been using the Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DGX 1.4x Teleconverter on a Tamron 70-300 F4/ 5.6 VC USD with Nikon D5100 for 3 weeks and was amazed at it's performance. On very dull days the AF worked quite well at F8/F11, although it was a slower. It also hunted occasionally, but was acceptable. In full sunlight there was no noticeable difference in AF speed than without it. A great piece of kit!

From what I have read it may work on manual focus, I had the same idea..

I used mine regularly on a Canon 100-400 f4-5.6L and with the Kenko it AF'd well on a 550D, 7D, 60D and 5D2 and they are all rated for max f5.6 aperture lenses to AF. It also reported the FL's and everything else correctly saying the 100-400 was an f8 but still kept AF. I suspect it would do the same with the Nikon 70-300 although I've never tried it as I shoot Canon.

Are the kenko converter compatable with the sigma lenses with canon mount .

I use a Kenko 1.4 with a Sigma 70-300, a Sigma 105 macro, in fact It gives very good results with all my lenses,
I have not tried it with the Nikon 70-300 VR
Just watch that the rear element of the lens you want to use it with does not touch the front element of the engaged Kenko

I looked thrugh a lot of posts on google to find this.
Thank you very much.
i was looking for a 2xconverter but I read none of them were compatible,.. so I will settle with this
For my d750 and tamron 70-200 VR and the Tamron 70-300 F4/ 5.6 VC USD

I bought the Kenko 1.4 pro300 DGX (after advice from this forum, thank you). Used it with a Canon 70-200 f4L. Absolutely spot on, though I found it better with centre weighted metering.
