Critique required Kell's 52 for 25 - Week 51 and 52.

Nice shots.

Can Sheep even use a phone?

Pretty sure no one else will post a similar picture :) . B&W suits the shot, but have you enquired?

Cool horizontal shot but got to thank you for the patterns shot - I only use LR but you've prompted me to learn some more of the geometry techniques which I used for my own pattern shots.

Oh and the sheep sign is hilarious!

Great take on the theme Kell, in my mind I keep adding "ish" to the end of sheep... :D

Week 12 - BROKEN

I spotted this flagstone on the way to work. Weirdly, most of the engraved ones are quite badly broken.

But this is what I really wanted to take - and you can only get down there when the tide is out.

The struts/supports for this pier have obviously been broken for some time as there are concrete ones behind. But it's only the ones under this particular part. Wonder what happened to them to make those the only one's that perished.

Great set!

Your chosen one, with St Paul's framed between the broken support is really good.

Thanks Paul.

I almost didn't choose that as the submission because I work overlooking St Pauls now and have taken several hundred shots of it from various angles since we moved there.

But that's just from my personal POV, I've seen all those shots of St Pauls.

great shot there Kell

Brilliant framing of St Pauls and totally on theme. I actually really like the atmosphere and the light of the Wordsworth flagstone. Quite moving !!

Nice set and you chose the correct shot :)

Great set and think you picked the best shot, great framing and B&W really suits the picture. Only thing is that crane but I know that's London

Yeah - the cranes are just everywhere you point a camera at the minute. That particular one is a floating crane as they’re extending the waterfront.

I reckon I can see over a dozen out the window of the office.

Trying to place exactly where you are.
You're obviously looking at Blackfriars Station and St Pauls, so on the South Bank.
Blackfriars bridge is not in the shot, so that puts you either under the bridge itself (I don't think so) or there must be something on the thames path that has stanchions including rooten wooden ones. But I can't place anything there like that.

I much prefer the darker B&W one that you chose over the lighter one or the colour one (y)

Hey Tim - right by the OXO Tower on Thames Beach. There are two piers - one right in front of the OXO Tower and one in front of Gabriel's Wharf. At low tide, you can get down on to the beach there. The one in front of Gabriel's wharf (HERE) has the broken pillars.

ETA: Though it looks like the pillars were still solid in 2016 when the Google maps image was taken.

Ah yes. I do know those piers and that was my original thought, but I was confused by not seeing the blackfriars road bridge.
But looking from this view I can see that the road and station bridges merge 'perfectly' into one which was what caused my confusion.

Nicely done :)

Great catch Kell. Like how you've lined up the building in the background with the broken post.

Week 13 - Textures

I now work on the South Bank fairly near the National Theatre. The Brutalist style of architecture uses wooden shuttering to form the moulds for the concrete and, in most cases, you can see the texture from the original planks imprinted in the wood.

Somerset House:

Not sure why the front of Somerset house has this texture in the plaster...

Mind the Gap:

The textured nodules are there for blind/partially sighted people to let them know they're nearing the edge:

But my submission is this one.

Horseleydown Beach

Right under Tower Bridge is a tidal beach. Checked the tide times and low tide was 11:30 (ish) today. Went down there at lunch as the tide was coming in and almost got marooned. But managed to take this which features many different textures.

Great set! Your chosen shot is probably the best, but to be honest any of them could have made it.

Interesting how the bottom couple of rows of brickwork don't have weed on them.

Thanks Paul.

I did wonder that maybe when the tide is coming in and out it's strong enough to move all the shale back and forth at a low level and remove the build up.

Texture overload!! Amazing set sir. Love the Somerset House bricks and the blur of the tune carriage really highlights the textured floor

Agree with your chosen shot and great effort getting it... Imagine the headline.... "Man rescued from Thames after getting stranded taking texture photos for photography forum"...

Nice set - chosen one is very erm....

GREEEEEEEEEN!!!!!

Good set of pictures for texture, all suit the theme. Is the green colour accurate?

I didn't add anything to the saturation in the RAW file, but by giving the greys a bit more oomph it definitely made the colour pop more.

Side by side - obviously the RAW file also doesn't reflect reality as it's very washed out.

Thanks - I tried a version in B&W but didn't like it as much as you can't see the distinct red/blue of the tube.

Great set of images this week, I like your bricks & the mind the gap idea was great, but your chosen shot is definitely the winner. Think it's right to stick in colour rather than B&W because as Oy said, GREEN

You always manage to get such great colours Kell, I always look forward to seeing your work. The textured brick in the third image is awesome.

Week 14 - Shadows

All along the South Bank last night. Got as little unlucky with the light as it was fairly strong when I left work, but clouded over by the time I got to anywhere interesting to take shots.

Again, Sony A7i + Minolta 50-135/3.5

Full length

But I preferred going in a little closer.

This was my choice however. I think the flared trousers and the extra detail from the cobbles just made it for me.

Fastest shutter in the west!!

I REALLY like the chosen shot and the way the shadow fades out as I lengthens. Brilliant!
