Keeping caps off lens?

Caps always on as soon as i have used them.:)

Why 'lens element down' out of interest? My bag looks pretty much like Dan's with lens caps off and lens pointing up! Even more so when I've one on another body in the bag ready to go.
Main reason I have mine front down is so that the rear cap is easily accessible. My change process is remove the attached len swap rear cap over, drop into spare slot in the bag and finally attach new lens. It saves having to juggle lenses or use the "1 under the arm" method

Maybe it'll be easier if I wore a strap :) because currently I need to keep the camera in one hand whilst changing the lens...

For the people who fit the cap when not in use, what do they do with the cap when using the camera.
I have been told off in the past by a friend of mine for putting the cap in my jeans pocket, she pointed out that I will always have fluff on my lens due to this..
She was correct and i never twigged when the fluff and dust was coming from ..

Not really, a slight change to Chris's method and it's just as easy.
Lenses stored in bag front element down (hood installed or clear filter), no front cap and rear caps loose, either completely or just not fully tightened. (There's no need for the rear cap to be tightened down, it's not like you're jumping around and they are going to pop out of the bag).
Take lens off and drop into open slot, transfer rear cap, remove/install new lens... adds 1-2 seconds to a lens change compared to no caps at all.

There should always be an open slot in the camera bag, probably the one the camera/lens came out of... If you're carrying more than three lenses for any given situation, you're lugging around too much stuff IMO. That's why I use a transport case (backpack/pelican) and a shooting bag (think tank speed racer usually, or retrospective if lighter gear/shorter duration).

For someone who's just dropped around £10k on 3 lenses, I'm surprised you're not more worried!

I was going to say something similar. I do stick them on always for storage. I have however, ditched the UV filters recently as that probably was me being too careful. If I'm shooting an event and changing lenses over I will drop them into the bag with a hood on (front end down) but less the cap just for speed, no issues with that.

PS. That new addition to your collection looks mighty fine. Come to think about it, your collection now looks one serious set up.
