Quick question, and i'm just curious. Do any of you write down places when you spot a capture but don't have the ability to stop and take a shot?

I started a few days ago, and two places / events on my list so far:

- West Lothian Golf Club
- Mussulburgh Race Event (horses)

Reason I am keeping the list, I have been out too many times and thought "Damn, what a lovely view, wish I had my camera...or That would be great if a sunny day etc etc. I kept forgetting where I had been, hence the list.

For the record, I keep it on my mobile :)
 
I try and keep a bit of a list in my head, but probably should start putting it down somwhere as I am sure I forget some :(
 
Probably a good idea to keep notes but I'm not sure I could be bothered. All I do is name the folder I save the pictures to on my computer and CDs with the name of the place they were taken (if that makes any sense). Also if I've used different cameras at one location I add sub folders suitably named to identify which camera was used to take the shots in that folder.

Sorry, I don't mean post shooting. I mean if you see a place or a scene, and you dont have the option of taking a shot. Do you write it anywhere as a reminder to visit when you get a chance, and capture the shot you just missed?

Ah, yes, sorry Gary in answer to your question no I don't, I bring the missus instead and tell her to remember:thumbs:.
 
I do it in a rather geeky/anoraky way, in that if I see a possible location (when driving) I tap the location (as a favourite) into my tomtom sat nav for future reference.

If out walking, and the conditions are crap, I'll tap the location into anquet maps on my pda for future reference.

Yup, this is me too!

There were 4 specific things/places I wanted to photograph this year... Venice Masquerade, The Gormleys (Another Place), Formby Red Squidgers, and the Donna Nook Seals.... the seals being the one I havent been able to get to!:(
Im sure theres many more local places that Id thought 'OOh! Ill come back here' and have forgotten, so perhaps I should start a written list.
 
I have not got to the point where I'm that structured to take pics because ther are there or would look good (well they would if someone else took them :lol: ) The only places I have seen are when I'm driving down the motorway, and when I get home 4 hours later I will have forgotten them!!
 
Don't know if you have ever came across this site here Gary ---> http://www.henniker.org.uk/ This guy has been taking photos of Edinburgh and surrounding eareas for donkeys years and there are loads of his photos on site, a lot of places you may recognise. It might give you ideas on where to go if you don't have a intimate knowledge of Edinburgh and surrounding areas.

Of course it all depends on what type of photo you want to take.

I have made up a note book using Filofax pages (remember them) with hand made plastic covers and o ring thingys. This goes with me everywhere. If I see somewhere that I want to come back to, then I write it down. Eventually I transfer it to a PDA.

It is also good for notying down ideas when the pop into your head (especially waiting for a train).

The other option is to always carry a camera. I always carry a Canon IXSUS 500. Doesn't take up a lot of room in the pocket of rucksack and if you buy a belt case can keep it on your belt.
 
Forget the list.
Make sure you have your camera with you at all times.
In a closet it is just so much useless junk.
 
Also usful is if you see someone pointing to a location on a forum they have visited, say a National Trust site, I can gaurantee you its got a website, create a folder in your favs called 'places I'd like to visit' and book mark it there.

I have a book that I use like a mini brain. Locations, ideas for shoots, ideas for projects (just wait til next year, I have 2 biggies!!!) etc.

I did think about the tom-tom idea, especially as I do a lot of bandit camping in scotland so any good spots are always hard to remember. Then decided against it as I don't have a tom-tom, don't plan on getting one and I fear it would be stolen.

Nobody's gonna nick a shabby a4 book. Are they?

Well I have four places on my list so far, and as far as projects, not sure what you mean. I will be walking the West Highland Way early or late summer (whenever I can be sure to avoid Midges), and I have a week in Mull planned. I hope to have some photo shooting skills before both events!!

Best time for West Highland Way is around Easter time. No midgies, not too hot and not too cold. Snow still on the mountains. Nice shooting opportunities when you get onto Rannoch Moor.

There is a nice shot of Loch Lommond from the top of Conic Hill. A bit of a classic if you get it at the right time and in the right conditions. (Didn't write these into my book but kept them in my head).
