Family remember tragic hillwalker

Ms Sherratt's family described her as a keen photographer
The family of a keen hillwalker paid tribute to her following her death in icy conditions.

The body of Rachel Sherratt, 48, from Midlothian, was found in woods in Perthshire on Saturday.

Ms Sherratt, of Loanhead, was described as a "wonderful" daughter, partner and friend.

Her family said her death was a tragedy but that they took comfort from the fact that she had been doing something she loved.

'Sorely missed'

A statement released through Tayside Police said: "She was full of fun and laughter when we last saw her, celebrating the New Year with family and friends in rural Perthshire.

"Rachel loved spending time out of doors and was a keen hillwalker and rock climber, as well as a keen landscape photographer.

"Her death is a terrible tragedy.

"We take some comfort knowing that Rachel died doing something she loved - spending time outdoors with her camera.

"She will be very sorely missed by all who knew her."

Rescue teams came across Ms Sherratt's body in the Kindrogan Wood area, near Kirkmichael, later on Saturday. Overnight conditions in the area had been described as treacherous with snow over a foot deep in places.

A major search had been launched when she failed to return after going walking in the Glen Derby area to take photographs the day before.

R.I.P

Sorry to hear that

Terrible news. Obviously there`s no specifics, but it is an eye opener that we should take all precautions necessary when out for extended periods in cold weather.

R.I.P, thats a terrible shame and just highlights that we must all take care when out shooting.
