Oh yumm.... hmmm... looks lovely... I'm going to agree with KG and Sarah on this one... #3 for me for the same reasons.

Great shots. I love food shots with a narrow DoF.
Can I ask how you shot these? More specifically, which lens and focal length?

Anyway...moving swiftly on. Catch up time...

I have been trying to get a shot for water, which also happens to be a reshoot of an old shot I took a while ago. Anyway, all the new shots were rubbish, so eventually I have had to admit defeat, and am just gonna post the original, which is admittedly nearly a year old.

It's not like it's actually that good a picture!! I just like the textures...:razz:

I like the textures too. :) I'm not sure if I'd immediately thought ' water running across a textured surface', though. A visual prompt eg water pouring from something onto the surface would have 'completed' the photo for me.

Full marks for having another go at a difficult subject, though - even if you preferred the first one. :)

Thanks for the recipe... I'll save that one... Just been looking at it... serves 10... there's not enough choccy in there for sharing lt alone split amongst 10...

Water...I like the textures and it'd s good shot, but it doesn't make me think of water straight away... I think Jean hit it nicely... Something to provide context..

Old shot or not, I really like water.
Very similar to what I tried to do for that week. You've definitely got the texture and the contrast far better than I did, but I agree with Jean that I'd like to see the water pouring out of something to give it more context.

Maybe you and I should have combined forces on this theme :lol:

I like the idea but something's not quite clicking for me with it. I think it's one that I'll have to come back to a second time.
 
I'm not sure whether it's artistic frustration, or just green eyed jealousy from playing with Kennysarmy's lenses and flash at the weekend, but with only the kit lens and on-board flash to use, I''m feeling a little frustrated in trying to get anything meaningful posted at the moment. My birthday's in 5 weeks, and am hoping for at least 1, if not 2 lenses, and maybe even a flash too, so we'll see how much my family reallythink of me shortly!!! :thinking:

Here's the overdue Out of Context shot, showing me logging on to a 'rival' photographic forum, which would seem OoC for TalkPhotography I reckon.

I'd never realised how difficult it is to photograph a laptop screen in any meaningful way. Tried my best - hope it's not too awful, even if not technically pushing the boundaries.

Secondly is bubbles - think bubbles, think aero bars. Another food related shot! This one was easy to capture, but I took an awful lots of shots to get the right composition, and although I'm not 100% happy with this (should have difused the fill flash), it's the best of an average bunch. I managed to prevent myself from eating any of them...honest!

never tried taking a photo of a laptop screen ... I actually quite like the dark moody look..

quite in contrast to the Aero shoot - very bright and colourful...

I think you nailed the composition..because...well because they just look like they've been tipped out on the floor....

any left now?

Cheeky, but fun interpretation of "out of context".
As an image, I can't say that the content of the shot is REALLY exciting me that much, but I've tried photographing my laptop screen and I know it's not easy.
You say that it's not pushing the boundaries, but I like the way that you've chosen to shoot it at an angle and the dof works really well - not something I've ever seen in this type of shot before. And technically a very difficult shot to get. :thumbs:

"Bubbles" : Well after your passion week, if somebody was going to do a chocolate theme it had to be you :p
I like this. Fun, different, not something that I would have thought of. The random, tumbled composition works well.

Now why haven't you posted any out to your fellow 52ers ????? ;)
 
The out of context shot isn't a bad one, but not really doing anything for me. Not sure why, can't quite put my finger on it :thinking:

Bubbles on the other hand is excellent! Only crit from me is I would love to have seen 1 of the bars open and a bite taken out. Would have added that final touch to the shot. All in all :thumbs:
 
Out of Context, it's not easy getting a decent shot of a laptop screen and you've done a good job there. I quite like it, and the angle is good.

Bubbles, excellent, really like that... the piling is good. I thought of trying something like this with some of the Aero Bubbles (the balls) but couldn't get any.. although the thought of being forced to eat a half of each bubble to make the shot :lol:
 
I like your thinking, the Aero bars work really well and fits the themes nicely...:clap::clap::clap:

Passion - definitely #3 for me, great composition and spot on DoF :thumbs:

Water - I love the textures and curves on this and the abstract nature of it. defintely says water to me. :clap:

Out of Context - Love the composition of this and it definitely OoC to go where no TPer has gone before :suspect:

Bubbles - The only thing that's missing (as has been said before) is a bar with a bite taken out.

Nice set of pictures and well done for catching up :clap::clap:

Bubbles: Yummy Aeros. What a great idea. I agree with KG that an open one with a chunk bitten out would have been good - if you can stand the temptation not to finish it off. :thumbs::thumbs:

Place holder for my Low Down shot which I have in my head, but not on my camera...so far!

Many thanks for the many comments above...all very kind. I am still really enjoying the 52 challenge - the lens situation kind of frustrates, but your words of encoragement and praise keep me plugging through - 3 more weeks, and hopefully that situation will change for the better!!!

Well, after promising a bit more effort than I've managed of late, I hope this one goes down okay.

Doom and Gloom that it's barely 5pm and it's flaming dark already!

This is a 20 second exposure at f11 @18mm on the kit lens. Used a torch for lighting on the clock face. Had a choice of two shots - one with better definition in the clock face, but preferred this one with more light - looks like the face is creating the light.

EDIT : Just to say that the original is slightly lighter than this Flickr hosted version.

I'm not too convinced about the whole doom and gloom thing. It's definitely gloomy, but I'm not quite getting the doom :lol:

Having said that, I do like this shot.
Really creative use of lighting :clap: It does look like the light is coming from the clock face.
I'd maybe think about cropping a little off the top, just to lose that bit of sky that's showing through - IMO it might give a bit more impact to it.
 
That's a great shot, and very clever use of light on the clock face. Good work :thumbs:
 
Thanks for the comments guys - I did contemplate a tighter crop, to remove the patch of sky, but felt that it gave a little perpective in the shot, rather than just being a dark background...:thinking:

It was basically trial and error in terms of both length of exposure and how much to use the torch on the clock face. Think I got it about right, but would have liked a bit more definition on the clock face ideally. I didn't have time to reshoot, as the roast chicken needed taking out of the oven!!! :shrug:

Very nicely done... I love the lighting on that. It's worked very well. I have to say though, that clear winter evenings, don't spell doom and gloom to me... Only cloudy ones... It's so nice to not have to wait till midnight for the skies to get properly dark... ;) So on that basis... it doesn't really say doom and gloom to me, but I can see your point.
 
I agree it might be lacking the doom a little, not that i have done any better :( However as the others have said the lighting works really well :)

Perhaps not so much doom, but definitely gloom! The lighting is very good, and you're right - leaving the skyline helps to put it in perspective.

When I was a child I used to love winter with the cold and the long dark nights, but not now - I'm getting old!
 
Hello all. I couldn't honestly think a single subject that would make a worthy effort for Communication, so what I have lacked in quality, I have (hopefully) made up for in quantity! These are a mixture of shots - library shots, previous TP52 shots, and some new ones too. They are all based on the them of Communication in different ways, and put together using PSE.

Not sure I've chosen the best central shot, but there you go...

Starting from top left, the communication forms are Internet, phones, music, tv, newspapers, (pigeon) post, talking and writing. :)

This is very cleverly composed. You've positioned the most visually striking photograph smack bang in the middle, and then left the others scattered around it for us to inspect at a more minor level. Really well done, have to say :thumbs:
