Kdot 7.52.2010 [People]

Speed, hmmmm....had a few excuses, errm, I mean problems getting the shot done this week...added to a little bit of a lack of inspiration, so after spending half the night at work, I skivved off today to spend a half hour or so on a motorway bridge - I came up with a few shots, but none really stood out, if I'm honest. Tried all sorts of shots, including using the +10 stop welding glass shot, panning, and various other techniques - this was the one that conveyed speed the most, IMO. If I wasn't late already, I probably would have re-shot. It's deliberately over-processed, to cover up some of the technical limitations of the shot.

Had another (photographic) near miss with a wild kestrel on the way home, which would have really made up for the last few days! Dang...!

It certainly conveys the impression of speed. The grey tops to the lorries look a bit odd though - is that part of the processing? And I find the bright blue sign on the left a bit distracting, and would be inclined to tone it down a bit. OTOH maybe it fits the overall processing scheme... :thumbs:
 
Bit of a catch up for me!

Street: I like the 'canal' one best - and there is a street in there too, so no crowbar needed this week! The figure in the seat adds interest and the three 'lines' running across the frame work well - the canal, the street and the telehone wires.

Speed: I sympathise with the difficulty of getting this one nailed. Very frustrating. But you've actually produced an interesting shot. It's got a sort of dream-like quality, with the road and surroundings 'real' and the traffic is just transient and fleeting. In fact the more I look at it, the more I see in it! Pretty good, imo, for a 'this'lldo' shot. :thumbs:

Tracer - I left the blue sign in to 'anchor' the shot, and emphasise the difference between the moving and the still elements of the shot.

This week - had my idea early in the week, but no time to execute...and as a result again, I'm happy-ish with the shot, but not 100%. I've run out of time, so take it or leave it guys! Anyway, the point of the shot is that it's a watch which shows the present (time) and it was given to me as a (birthday) present, so fits two ways! Unfortunately, I slightly missed the focussing on the Tag logo, which was the aim.

Speed isn't bad at all! I can see how it's a bit over processed but I like the idea behind it (although I would say that because it's similar to my own idea :lol:)

Present is really good. Really like the interesting DOF on it, but pity you just missed the focus by just a smidge. Although, I probably wouldn't have noticed only for you mentioned it ;)
 
Hi Keri, really like your work so far, one thing that stands out is the way you present them, i love thew simple framing and when i look at them all together it looks good.
i love your chopped, great processing on this. Speed does exactly what it says on the tin!
Present is great, a lovely composed shot with good use of the dof. Great job so far, keep it up.
 
It looks like a lovely present ;)... I like the lighting and DOF, although I keep trying to read what's written on the left, but it's all a blur...

I missed your speed shot, but over-processed or not I really do like the feel to it :clap:
It definitely conveys speed.
I can see your reasoning behind the blue signs, but for me they are a just a little bit too bright and could do with a touch of desaturation.

Present : I like the angle that you've chosen for this. It's a bit different to the usual straight on watch shots and really works well.
:clap: You shouldn't have mentioned missing the focus slightly . . . I'd never have noticed it!
 
Thanks for all the comments above - much appreciated, as ever...and I will keep my mouth shut in the future!!

Anyway, had a (half term, with the kids) trip to London planned for a while, and had an idea that a 'people' shot was plausible up in 'the big smoke'. Had several possibilities, but liked this shot the best - people queueing at the Natural History Museum for the dinosaur hall. Love looking at the shot, in a 'Where's Wally?' type of people watching way, with the Diplodocus stood there in the middle of the hall.

Not ideal conditions for the shot - this is handheld, so good practise to get the shot usable within (Canon) DPP. Larger version here!

Present: I agree with the comments on dof - I wouldn't have noticed either. :D
It's a good double take on the Present theme, and I'm sure you enjoy wearing it. :)

People: I love this - as you say it's got a very 'Where's Wally' look and if I look more carefully I'm sure I'll see somebody I know there. This is just the sort of shot I would have loved to do for People, but for the second year running, I've been hit with the week 7 curse (Last year it was Crowds!) :lol:

I hope you enjoyed the trip, too, and as you say, brilliant chance to work handheld in a situation you can't control at all. :clap::clap::clap:

More people than you can shake a dinosaur at. And I'm sure you're cheating and cloned Wally out 'cos I can't find him! :lol:

Well exposed considering it's indoors and the line of the dinosaur running through helps give everything some scale. Nicely done :clap:
 
Nice collection of images here. I especially like Chopped, and People is about as on-theme as you can get.

I like it. Definietly on theme, you could hardly get more people in a single shot. The diagonal of the dinosaur works well to anchor the shot and give it a focal point, and considering the conditions that this was shot in it's very well executed.

I know that this was probably good luck but I like the way the colours are working in this too.
Most people are wearing brown / black winter wear, but there's a particular shade of blue in the barriers and some of the clothing that really holds it all together . . . then there are those splashes of red that liven it up.
On the left hand third there's a little girl in a bright red coat who's turned round and almost looking up at the camera. I'm keep finding my eye drawn back to that spot.
 
Very well done Keri, that's an amazing crowd of people rammed into that hall. The position of the skeleton really helps with the shot.
 
I really like this one - colours and composition are excellent. Just a shame you haven't posted a larger version.

@John - thanks. I had to climb some stairs and lean out over the rail to get it about right, although there's several metres of tail still out of the shot!

@Sarah - you obviously studied the picture far too long! :lol: When I processed in DPP, I made sure to keep the colour glows - and yes, I made all the people wear specific colour coats to create the pretty pattern. ;)
