weekly KathG's 52 for 2017

Hi KathG
Dark - Certainly works for me. I like the way you've managed to get two of the flowers in the focal plane, rather than one. I think that adds interest to the shot.
Power - #1 for me, they are both very good, but I prefer the off centre composition of the first one.
Above - Oh for a 600mm. my ancient 50-500 Sigma is a little soft at the far end. I prefer #1 due to the greater contrast teh processing has brought out.
Evolve - I'm going to opt for the selective colour too (did I really just say that?). Not often a fan, but on this occasion I think it works really nicely.

Hi Kathleen, I'm on catch up with my comments ...
I love the Elan Valley photos, they stirred up memories of when I was a kid, we would go from Birmingham to the Elan Valley on a Sunday ...take a picnic and just enjoy the magnificent scenery, lovely, lovely, happy days so thank you for that.
You've captured the blossom really nicely for Dark.
The first one for Power is excellent, I really like the way you've captured the blue colour.
The moon Above, super images with lots of detail.
That's a very original idea for evolve, I like the selective colour it works well for the theme.

How did I get so far behind, as you say life crowds in on us sometimes :)

Two ridiculous spell checks to correct ....I'd put selective 'flour' and 'How did I get so fat behind' must admit I did have a laugh at that one :D

I'm not usually a big fan of selective colouring, but in this case it really works. Nice composition too.

I love decaying flowers for the sheer "wrongness" of them, ie flowers should be bright and pretty, not decaying and unattractive, so for that reason, I like this a lot.....

Without trying to sound like a broken record, i too like the selective colour version. It's very well done (y)

Thank you so much everyone for your lovely comments. They are very much appreciated.

Re the selective colour, I did this in Lightroom CC and was really surprised how easy it was to do.

Cheers
Kath

Week 15 Hold

Oops this bag is not going to HOLD all my gear :(

Hold by Kath Garvey, on Flickr

Not really very imaginative for this one. I need an inspiration injection LOL....

Hold - thats just too much gear, but I like it especially in mono it works great for me. Well done.

A tight crop and that long lens needs brushing off, but I really like it ... mono works great for me too. (y)

Thank you everyone for all your lovely comments and CC, once again it is very much appreciated.

Smoke - Wow, super clear, lovely colouring and really nicely done. Like you, I took what seemed like hundreds of shots, it then took an age to narrow it down. Well done.

Ken, Steve Thank you. I enjoyed playing with the Smoke theme, not sure the rest of the family liked the incense smell though :)

Week 17 Vivid

Just about on time for a change. Have lots of thread cones from my quilting days so played with them. I have picked these two but I have a couple more on FlickR not sure which ones I like the best if at all ;) Wish I had got them a little sharper.

Love the smoke Kath. Yes I ended up taking dozens of shots of smoke. As you say it looks so easy on U-tube, but what with making flags for the flash and stinking the house out it took a long time. Love the coloured one best

Vivid is fantastic ! How did you get the reflections? I've been trying but they never come out as clear as your's..

Hi Granddad John

Thank you.yes the smoke was fun to do. The Vivid I stood the thread cones on an old mirror and I a black background. When I took the photos I tried to only compose the image capturing the reflection of the black background. I also had an off camera flash to one side. After that some tweaking in Lightroom CC to makes the blacks darker and some Clarity and Vibrance, and a little saturation.

Cheers
Kath

First vivid shot is excellent second ones a little to busy

Smoke two for me Kathy, with the colour, though patterns are good on both, very nice in fact :)

Vivid again very good, liking two again for the more effective reflection, nice blacks again and real nice vivid colours - good choice

Oh well done with the smoke ... after a lot of hard work you must be chuffed.

Vivid ... they certainly are. #1 (y)
