In case I'm missing something, a nice condition p30 has come my way with 2 lenses, but i can't get the body to fire up or wake up, ive tried it with 2 sets of batteries, not new but they work ok on an olympus OM10.
The shutter won't fire, it won't wind on, no led lights in the view finder. is there a trick?

Is there an "on " switch?

Sorry but sometimes the obvious isdn't always obvious:p

Yes yes i know, ive even read the manual and checked I've put the batteries in the right way.

What about the battery contacts.....are they corroded, or not making à good contact in some way?

I used to have an MX which developed an earthing problèm so would drain batteries in less than 24 hours and iirc they only fed the meter...... Perhaps electrtical faults are a regular problèm with many Pentax outfits

This is probably a long shot, but I'm wondering if it has a similar quirk to the Nikon FG.

When the batteries go everything locks up when you press the shutter.

The solution is to fit new batteries, set it to bulb and press the shutter again.

Well i feel such a fool, the manual i got with it is for a p30N, i had put the batteries in like in the manual l tried them the other way in mine and it came to life. ☺
It's a clunky little thing but im gonna give it a whirl with film.

Now, if you were my dummy roll of film for testing where would you be?

The P30 was my first ever SLR, and was a new model for Pentax at the time: really appreciated the stop-down lever for checking depth of field. Eventually flogged it and bought an almost new Minolta 7000 (now dead) and a 70-210 f4 Minolta zoom that I still use.

Found the dummy roll, all seems ok so I've loaded a roll of lomo lady grey black and white.
