Very indulgent :)

Really sharp and well it. Low tech is good - it's cheap and it works :thumbs:

The plate is a little distracting though. I think plain white with a fancy doyley (sp?) would have made it perfect.

I want a cream scone now :lol:

The cemetery shot, great! I think everythings been said about it, great, a low angle with the cross shadows would be nice too - just an idea ;)

Indulgence - YUMMY!!! Great colour, the plate just like you grandma would have and insist you stay for tea whilst shoving the plate in your hand with yummy treats.

Really? Using a reflector to cast light is a standard process, and it's great that you've spotted a problem and fixed it so simply. Well done! :clap:

The cake looks delicious.

Very indulgent indeed! Very sharp and excellent lighting. Although in a way the pattern on the plate is a bit too much of a good thing, it is so typical of the kind that was used for a trad afternoon tea - takes me back!

Perhaps it's not the perfect plate for it. I'd have liked to see it on something like a traditional blue wedgewood - I think the clotted cream would stand out better against a blue background and it would remind me of afternoon tea at my Great Aunt's.
Scones and Wedgewood were a standard for Sunday afternoon visitors :lol:

Having said that, what you've got certainly works well :thumbs:
Glad to see that you've got your inspiration back again. It's really showed in the last couple of weeks.
 
Indulgence - very nice and clean and sharp, with a nice depth of field, just the right amount of blur on the back of the plate. Just looks really tasty and the reflector has done it's job.

What an incentive to get the final shot done as soon as possible so that you can get a cup of tea and devour the subject!

Indulgence: This is a great (and very yummy) shot. The textures work well and the plate does fit with afternoon tea at granny's! I don't want to pop Sarah's balloon, but this yummy concotion would ruin a Wedgwood plate (if you mean the pale blue 'Jasper' ware, Sarah) because it's not glazed and the cream would soak into it and stain it! But from a photographic point of view the colours would look great! :D

God, that scone looks good. The dribble of jam really helps and the useof white paper fro fill is completely valid!

Love your peace shot too, by the way. The lines and tone is perfect.
 
Oohh... my kind of indulgence... lovely... so fits the theme perfectly. It's clean and crisp, although it looks a little dark on my monitor... as for the hi tech paper solution, it does the job ;)

thanks all for the nice comments. The plate seems to have caused the most debate! I used it so give a traditional tea-time feel.
 
week 19 Ingredients

Not happy with this one at all but didn't want to miss a week.

I take this sort of shot in natural light by a window. The sun has been out at the times I coud attempt this and on a white background it was faaaaaar too white and bright, so used the black one.

Need to learn how to deal with bright sun light better.

It may well be my eyes but the gin bottle doesnt look straight.
 
It is quite a nice arrangement but I think you need more separation from the background, and the lemon is a bit dark. Maybe a reflector would help. I find it very difficult to control bright window sunlight - it is much easier if it is overcast.

Not sure about the straightness - how much did you drink before shooting?:lol:

bottle is a touch dark

but certainly 100% on theme!

Is there enough of the hand infocus?

Using a central focus point which was on the palm of the hand.. not sure if that the best option.

 
A good image but for me the shadow is slightly off putting and the focus isn't quite right.
 
I think it's quite a cool shot actually. The focus is definitely off, but the title kind of implies the hand was in mid-thrust into the frame, explaining the blur. I think you could get away with it as a Magnum photographer... :)

For me, the background melds with the OOF person due to the DoF you've chosen. Maybe against a lighter background it would have worked better.

Was it a self portrait?

It does look like the focus is slightly off, but as Ian said that implies some motion with the hand.
Great idea for the theme and the sense of perspective works very well.

Ingredients is very nicely arranged, but I think the harsh sunlight has worked against you with the shadows and dark areas where you don't really want them.
 
Ingredients, it's not quite doing it for me, the idea is great, but the lighting really hasn't helped you here... I like the idea of outside though, bet that would have worked a treat.

Stop, great idea. I do agree on the focus, but it works as it looks like there's some motion blur there. The odd lighting, with you (??) in shadow, and the hand in the light, really helps with the impression I think you were trying to give... so :thumbs: from me.

You've already mentioned it is too oof. I find my eyes searching the image looking for what was focused on.

Would have also like to have seen the full arm in the shot as it looks like it could belong to somebody else.

Not a self portrait - it is my daughter. Wish I could say I had thought the hand should be OOF !

Week 21 - Isolation

a bit late posting as I have been away with no access to a computer.

The subject is the only person on the beach .. ie in isolation (!) but isn't really isolated as she is checking her email on her phone.



Best I could come up with .. must try and get thinking hat out for this week :bonk:.
 
:wave: I hope you enjoyed your break - if you stayed in the UK, you definitely had the right weather for it.

A nice idea with this week's theme, but TBH I'm not really convinced by it. I think it has potential and it definitely says isolation, but it's just not quite there for me.

I think it could definitely benefit from a bit more contrast to give it some lift and maybe a bit of cropping to recompose. I'm finding both the horizon and the figure a little too close to the centre of the frame.
 
There's a clear sense of isolation here, there's no way from this distance to tell she's checking email, so it works from that front. I wonder if it wouldn't have worked better with putting her on the lower left third... she's facing right, and that would have removed some of the sand, bringing in more of the clouds and sky... the clouds, I think could have increased the feeling of isolation perhaps...
 
Thanks for the comments - I will have a play with the image to try out your suggestions when I get a chance.

Haven't had the chance to look at everyone elses entries for Isolation - apologies. Will try to do better this week.

Looks like amazing workmanship...I quite like the composition of this and the tones are lovely...doesn't look terribly sharp but I know what can happen on upload as quite a lot of mins look soft when I put them on here.
 
:agree: amazing workmanship, nice shot for quality. I quite like the composition also, but, and it may just be the way I like to see props... it looks a little unbalanced. As for the sharpness... the image is only 39Kb, how much compression did you use on the jpg ? It looks like, and I may be wrong, like you have the odd ripples of compression artefacts along the edges... It's truly amazing just how much difference that can have on the quality of an image.
