#1 nearly worked for what you wanted... the camera looks a little beaten up though ;)..

#2 on the other hand is excellent, and a really well taken shot.

That was exactly what I thought when I looked at crop, so glad that you did the edit. That works much better and I love the use of the soft green border :thumbs:

For shoot, my vote goes to the second image too.
I like the crop just as it is, and for a reflection shot it's lovely and crisp. I like this one a lot.

The "beaten up" camera is my daughter's and gets a lots of use.. it has been in the French alps for about 8-9 weeks this winter amongst other places!

week 15 Single

best of a not very good set of photos. I had various ideas but just couldn't get anything to come out the way I wanted. :bang:

I think the time has come to learn a few more things that my camera can do.

 
Its ok, but Im sure you know you can do better, your stream shows that ;)

A single malt and a single record = makes a double surely??? lol.

Pick one of the subjects and REALLY focus on it - perhaps use a macro and get right into the grooves on the single or maybe just the centre hole, or a small section of the record slipping out of the sleeve.
There are lots of Whiskey shots this week :-S
 
Nice idea with the "double single", and it's not a bad shot. But if I'm totally honest, I don't think it's the best that you've done.

I'm not sure what the dark stripe is at the left of the image and there are some distracting reflections on the glass and the bottle.

I think a lower angle would have helped and there are some lovely shadows with light sparkles in, so an angle that made the most of those would have been good too.

Definitely worth revisiting though - and I really like Dade's suggestions for focusing on just the single.
 
A catch up for me I'm afraid... Sorry for the shorter comments. I'll be catching up this week as I know what I'm doing for week 16.

Produce: Buns. They look delicious. Nice composition and spot on focus. The detail in the bread just makes them look soooo inviting!

Quad: I like all the images. looks like you thought about the background when you were shooting which has really brought your subject out. I prefer the blurred one :)

Shoot: I like the second one "Me-shooting-me". Interesting idea well executed. Creative and well composed with the big house in the background. I like the fact your back's to it. ("Saw a big house, but all I took was a photo of a silver ball")

Single: I pretty much agree 100% with what Sarah said. If anything though, that black shadow in the upper left corner is very distracting.

Single, a good idea, and fits the theme, although I count two singles in there as well ;)...

the black band on the upper left is distracting, and I think I agree with Dade's comments about really getting in close...
 
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I have to agree with you all. I don't like the photo much at all, really struggled to get an idea for single .. and not doing any better for this weeks stare.

Seem to be loosing my enthusiasm for the 52 but hoping it will come back if I just keep at it.
 
Week 16 - Stare

Yet again struggle to think up something for this week. Don't want to give up on the 52 just yet but as I said really loosing enthusiasm.

Teddy was the only willing subject I could find and even then I got his stare out of focus. :'(

52 weeks is a long old slog - and we'll all have moments like this :hug:
It'd be a real shame to lose you now. Some very good shots in here and a definite improvement over the weeks.

As for stare - it's a sweet shot and it made me smile :)
The focus on the eyes doesn't look that bad. The fact that they're partly covered by fur covers up any issues and cuteness is always a bit of a "get out of jail free" card with me anyway :lol:

Let's just hope that Simon pulls something inspirational out of the bag for week 17.
 
Not a strong image for the week but you already know that.

Try different methods for coming up with ideas for the themes, one method I used in the first few was to put the theme into google and trawl throught the images section.

Sometimes you'll find something you either want to re-create or put your own twist on.

Keep it up, you wont regret it.
 
Don't get downhearted - we've had some really difficult themes just lately! :)

Stare does what it says on the tin, so no complaints there, and Teddy's muzzle is so large and round it made me smile. I didn't even notice his eyes, but it made me think of an animal staring closely at something, like a dog staring at a toy or treat he can't quite get to. It looks as though he's staring out of the screen - like a 3-D effect.

So, he might have been your only available model, but he (and you!) have done a good job. :thumbs:

Your self-crit on the eyes is spot on, but it doesn't detract too much. Nice composition - I like the tight crop, and there are some good lines running through the shot. He looks angry to me :)

Why don't you give yourself a couple of weeks off? Take a joker or two to shoot something that does inspire you and maybe that'll give you some mojo back?

I agree with Ian. Take a breath or two. You are being hard on yourself, this is a personal challenge (not a competition), as long as you are learning and gaining experience you are doing just fine ;)

For me I took the easy way out, I wanted to push myself but not compete (im competitive by nature) so I opted to do 'my own' 52. Same things apply, just Im challenging myself this way.

Your shots show you have the ability you simply need the belief in yourself :)

I like that bear, its cute but has a mean look to it. I had a struggle this week but then it came to me. some weeks are hard work but keep it up.
 
I really like it, you're right about the eyes, but in the context of this shot, the hair and the nose minimise the effect that could have had. Well done...

Don't give up though, I've lost a lot of hair (at least that's what I'm telling everyone :D) to the 52 during 2009 and now this year, but it's worth it. Stick with it.
 
You have good lighting and caught the texture very well, and I like the extreme close crop. Certainly fits the theme. As you say the eyes are a tiny bit soft but not enough to bother me in the generally hairy context.

Not your best but perfectly respectable - don't give up!
 
Sweet :) I like the crop and don't find the focus to be a problem really....I've had weeks like this too but I'm sure there'll be some really good weeks ahead and as the weather (hopefully) warms up we might feel more inspired!

Well composed, strong lines running through, very nicely exposed. Has someone found their mojo?

I'd prefer to see a touch more saturation - especially in the sky, and maybe in the grass too. However I'm struggling with colour photography at the moment, so feel free to ignore me. The bush in the bottom left is slightly distracting too, but that's a very monir niggle on what is (for me) a powerful and strong image.

There's something very poignant about military cemeteries. Partly the way that they're laid out and partly the knowledge that the dead are so young. You've done well to capture this feeling.

A very strong composition, those curves lead you right in.
Agree with the other comments about the bush bottom left, but it's a very minor niggle and nothing that a little crop wouldn't sort out.
 
I agree with everyone else - that's a very powerful and poignant image, and really drives home the price of peace.

However, rather than increase the saturation, I think it would be appropriate to make it mono. Just my thoughts, but thank you for sharing such a moving image. I hope this means your mojo is back! :)

A beautiful, powerful image that fits the theme perfectly. I don't mind the bush but would just crop off the wall at the bottom.

I don't think that this kind of image needs any more saturation - on my monitor it looks fine as it is. If you have the time though I'd be interested to see a mono conversion as Jean suggests.

Excellent take on the theme and an excellent shot, great curves and composition.
It reminds me a little of the closing scene in the film Oh what a lovely war.

superb shot for peace.. thought provoking and powerful.. great composition the lines of the gravestones are very striking

Week 18 Indulgence

this theme really isn't good for my waistline :D

You can't tell but I am holding a piece of white paper to the right of the image as the top of the scone kept coming out too dark .. vey hi-tec :lol:
