Trust me for not being careful. Had my 450D with my Tamron 70-300mm sitting on the coffee table - went to lift it and the camera strap caught on the corner of the table and the camera went bouncing onto the floor. Now the lens wouldn't zoom. :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

oh dear.

I have nearly done this so many times, but always mananged to hold on to the body, thats why i like the D200 as it has plenty to grab on to.

Looks like a trip to a lens repair centre me thinks

Jonathan

:( Oh dear, thats not good. Hope the body is ok.

Been there done that, but my Tamron broke into several bits. The camera was fine.
I had to claim on the house insurance.

Just tried the body with a few other lens and it's ok.

There seems to be a bit loose inside the lens - I can hear it if I give the lens a little shake.

Do you think it would getting repaired - Any thoughts on the price to do it, and where?

tbh it would just as expensive getting a 2nd hand replacement rather than fixing, or time for an upgrade..

Sadly the straps do more harm than good and it's for that reason I don't use them on my bodies....I just keep a firm hold of the camera.

Sorry to hear of your (common) mishap

Dunno what you are so happy about! I bought a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR & the AF packed up within three weeks of purchase. Now did I not see you had bought the same lens? :gag:

TILT!

Jesus - a month? Glad you got it sorted!

My 300 is also away for repair. Been away about 2 months now.:'(. It was only an f4 but the glass was good.
Unfortunately it is not under warranty.££££s:shake:

The CPL saved it a few times when knocked, but not when in fell out of my bag, the lens looked as bad as the filter ¬¬:bonk::bonk::bonk:

A couple of months back I was photographing scrambling, I hitched a lift with the marshalls to a distant part of the course, on the way one accidentally poured a cup of coffee over my Nikon 80-200 2.8, killed it stone dead, bummer! Wayne

I hope you scalded him with the rest of the coffee...either than or rammed the flask down his throat, sideways!

Evil, evil thing he did.

Cheers for the compassion Gary

I know it's only a cheap lens in the grand scheme of things, but to me it's still a lot of money and I'm going to have to take it out of my photography budget which was quite small in the first place.

I'll have to look out for a replacement - I know it wasn't the best of lens but it gave me a good range for the price, and unfortunately I can't afford a couple of L glasses. :shake:

Will just have to put this one down in the book and hope I don't do it again. :bonk:

A few years back at Fairford airshow ,the down wash from a ground taxying Chinook, blew over a steel crowd control barrier & snapped what was then my pride & joy Tamron telezoom in half. All my gear is now insured !!!:nono:

I suppose we should be grateful you havent got enough posts to be able to use the for sale section yet :D

lol. Definitely not going for sale - Took it apart last night and there is no way it's going back together.

Thats bad luck :(

Console yourself in the fact that it could have been a more expensive lens!
