Hi all,

finally bit the bullet last Friday after playing with a 5D at warehouse express and bought one, so far so good, but when I was trying the camera at warehouse express I used the 85mm f1.2 and loved it so I now have the itch to get one of them as well.

I saw the results and printed some A3 pictures from them, very sharp and great colour.

Has anyone had any experience of this combination that could give some coments or thoughts on this lens and camera combo.

Thanks

Havent tried it on 5d2 only on 5d
great lens but bit slow for me(AF wise)

This may be a great lens but it is very large and heavy and not at all versatile.

It might just be what you need, but on the other hand you'd get far more value out of a zoom or two.

I'd maybe look at the 85 1.8. It doesn't have the silly electronic focus, and you get a very sharp lens for not much money, and its a good length for a 35mm sensor.

I hear nothing but good things about the 85mm 1.8 on a FF body, maybe have a go with one and compare the results to that of the 1.2 L and then decide if the extra £1000+ is worth it ;)

EDIT: Ah I see from your sig you all ready have one?... if so forget I spoke :)

I've got the 85 1.2 and it's currently never off my camera.
I hired it from lensesforhire first and after I'd fallen in love with it I bought one off kerso.
The colours and sharpness far exceed any other lens I've got and for portraits it's perfect.
Some examples on the first few pages of my Flickr if you're interested - http://www.flickr.com/photos/zx80

I've tried out that lens and it is at times has a bit slow AF, but results are GREAT!
I own a 50 1.2 and love, love, love this lens. For me this is the lens I use the most and feel it is the most useful. I would give that a try unless you need more of a zoom.

Thanks for all the replies and sorry for not answering earlier but had some problems with my computer, but all sorted now.

I have the 85mm 1.8 so can compare some picture as you say.

I had heard that the 85mm 1.2 and the 5D are great together.

Thanks again

Tristan did use the 85L for one of those shoots but I think I'm right in saying the other was shot using the 135 f2L, his new weapon of choice..

If you already have the 85 1.8 why don't you give 135 a go?

i use the 85 L and the 35L on a 5d and a 1ds 3 and they are marvellous lenses
you can do amazing things with them at wide open apertures and they require the least processing of all my ppics

thanks guys, I think the 135 will be a bit long for the space I have
