just some advice please

my brother wants me to shoot some shots of his wedding i have a canon 400d and am thinking of hiring a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM would this be a suitable lens for the job if not what would you suggest

17-55 is a cracking lens and would be a good choice I reckon (not that I shoot weddings but I have this lens and it is a great "standard" zoom)

Would you not also need a slightly longer zoom (80mm ?) to avoid getting in people's faces too much.

Pretty sure I read about a wedding 'togger who ONLY uses an 80mm lens for every wedding... can't remember who it was, or where I read it though.
