Well the guy has just left and he has left me with a load of stuff to do.

Really looking forward to getting it all done, and getting out into the open sea.
Starting me off in what we call the Bathing pools which is basicallt swimming pools filled with sea water when the tide goes out. so even though it is still just a swimming pool it is also filled with fish left behind from the tide.

So over the next few months I will be studying hard and getting wet.

Roll on Egypt in August

What have you signed up for Spike? Open Water? If so it's a great course, and it's also well worth doing the AOW course too. If you're planning on doing speciality courses, post them up here. There's a few that are a waste of time TBH. You'll want to look at doing the Deep spec, Wreck spec and the Enriched Air (Nitrox) course.

Best of luck with it all!

Thanks chris

Just doing the open water course at the mo, see how it goes and if I take it up then will carry on with the rest of the other things too.

its well worth doing the Nitrox course as soon as you have your OW - I think its probably the most useful of the specialties

We retired at the end of 2008 so I guess it's unlikely you'll see it there again. In the later years when ever we had trips to the Channel Isles we spent most of the time off Jersey & St. Malo. The diving is better & I'm afraid to say that the harbour authority in Gurnsey weren't that helpful if we ever needed to go into St. Peter Port. The main problem was the draft of the vessel, they just didn't really have anywhere to put us other than the commercial quay....& then because of health & safety the customers weren't allowed to walk ashore, but had to rely on the yatch taxis which never seemed to be working :( A real shame as the island is a lovely place & the people pleasant & welcoming.
I know there's a fair amount of rivalry between the islands, but St. Helier were completely different, walk ashore with power etc & they would regularly save a space for us if we radioed/telephoned in advance. The staff would regularly move boats around to get us in........ on one occasion at midnight when we arrived back late from St. Malo!!!
Once you're qualified you've got a fair amount to keep you entertained around the isles, although it's a quite a tidal area & it shelves off deep quite quick.......Longue Pierre is a good example

P.S. The image in my avatar is of the wreck of a German minsweeper south of Jersey.

I know what you mean about the people in Guernsey, I am not a local myself only been here 9 years and married a local girl.
I have heard alot about the diving around Guernsey but I very much doubt I will be a serious diver as I have far too many other hobbies on the go, Bikes camera golf to name a few.
Looking forward to getting in the water though, and who knows maybe one of the other hobbies will take a back seat.
