Just received an iphone 4 - Do I sell while it's worth it?!

This might sound nuts to some but I've finally got my hands on an iphone 4 32gb, did an upgrade on my o2 contract. It looks amazing so far.

But, I've noticed them going for around £800 on ebay. Would it be sensible to sell it now to recoup some cash (a couple hundred profit as it cost me £92 on an upgrade by trading in my 3G 16gb) ? And then holding on til I can get another iphone (£599 with a minimum 3 week wait).

initial outlay with contract - £92
potential sell price - £800 (as per ebay going rates)
minus RMSD - £5.50 ish

New iphone - £599 (when available)

So that'd be £103 profit but a wait for getting another handset.

Looking at the maths and the wait maybe I should just enjoy what I've just got and not think of the profit, which if I got 800 would be about 100 in the end. :bonk:

Reason for typing/thinking outloud is I know a couple people who bought two on the day it came out and made back a decent wedge for the effort.

Must say though.. there are some amazing hd videos already on vimeo and my first play with the camera in the shop... nice :)
 
Sell it and buy a HTC, then you'll be £££ in.

Pete - sure I'll post up my thoughts! It's syncing all my music etc at the moment but when I've had time to play and get used to it then I'll post away. I had the 3G 16gb so I think the differences will be extra for me over the 3gs, so far all I have experienced is the speed of it, the camera quality and the hd videos I watched online yesterday on my HD monitor... amazing!

Ahhhh I'm not getting into a HTC debate :) They are very nice too but I'm an iphone convert I'm afraid. No doubt HTC will cream the new iphone with their newest offerings, but I was really happy with my 3G and decided to be content. It's all a mad technology race.

Still waiting for it to activate before I can check that. My mate in CPW and the chaps in apple (to be fair the latter would be biased) said it's not a problem. The guys in apple said I could test it and my mate didn't have to "sell" the phone to me and is trustworthy. He said all he noticed was the bars drop but the signal didn't and that a new software update will address any concerns.
 
I read today it was down to apple software showing more signal than you really had, so when you place your hand in the wrong position it appears to effect an apparently good signal. All the software will do is bring the signal reading inline with what it actually should be!

God when did I become a gadget geek?!?

Just keep it, use it and enjoy it - in my experience trying to make a quick buck usually results in some form of hassle or stress!

Plus at 800 quid you'll have a few quid in eBay and paypal fess to factor in

Don't believe the PR from Apple. My iphone 4 and my old 3G read the same amount of signal in the same place in my house. How is it, then, that when I hold the 3G the signal doesn't drop to 'no service'? Apple has made a huge cockup with the design of the iPhone 4 and they are now selling (if you can believe it) a rubber "bumper" to resolve their design fault.

As for the OP, I wouldn't bother unless you really need the £100. Don't forget eBay take their slice of that too. And Paypal if you use them.

a hundred quid hardly seems worth the effort, what can a hundred quid get you these days? a few filters? a memory card or two - personally i wouldn't bother
 
Agree, not worth the bother, keep the phone, you will love it.

Don't bother selling photo gear on there. The commission is extortionate, plus the Paypal fees.

I only ever sell stuff on here now. Much friendlier place to sell. Plus it doesn't cost you anything :thumbs:

yup !

sold the lens for 87 and 13 went to fees . isn't that cute ? :D . pluss there is no communication between seller and buyer if everything is all right and only few people leave feedback. TA has nice chatty atmosphere 99%
 
I didn't mean to start a HTC / iPhone debate here.

I was, and am a major apple convert having had a 3G and am still using my MacBook. The HTC is a wonderful phone though and cheaper than the iPhone in the first place while suffering no real problems (certainly nothing of the same magnitude of this cock up by them)
