I have a 1ds mk1 so i guess that answers the question

if you need fast iso quality, saturated sharp images straight out of the camera, with easy to use controls and large rear screen and good battery life then 5d

i like to think of the 5d as a small car with the big engine - ford escort cosworth


if you want built like a tank build, with endless customisations and control set, together with a professional "built to get the job done" look and feel, older technology but at the time best you could buy - 1ds mk1

I like to think of it as an old quality car - Daimler, Jaguar etc
 
Must also vote for the 5 as opposed to the 1Ds Mk I...

Papa, have you still not sold your 1Ds II?

If the price was negotiable down to 2.5 K I would consider...but then I don't have 2.5K lying around now:bonk:
 
Funnily enough I've been debating the same thing and finally decided on a 5D. I really like the build quality and features of the 1Ds but I was concerned about comments made by a couple of (current) owners over the quality of A3 prints at higher ISOs.

As I will want to make A3 plus prints I thought it best to go with the 5D for now and save up for a 1Ds MkII.

I decided not to sell, as it's still future proof with the 18mp.
You will never find a 1DSMKII with that small number of shutter actions.
 
I've just ordered the 5D with Grip from Kerso, I think it marginally wins out over the 1Ds MKI for a few reasons already mentioned. Although if I had the cash it would have been the 1Ds MKII, but that will have to wait!
 
I was looking to hold off buying one yet because the new 5D mkII will most probably come out soon, but then thinking about it, the demand for the 5D will still be strong and therefor the price wont go down much.

I did just that when looking for my 1DsMKII and he came up with a belter for me 10K shutter actuations and not a bad price either, it was comparable to anything I'd seen on ebay!

The trouble with the 5D is simply that once you have one you don't want to let it go! I kept mine even when I got the 1Ds.:)

Some people say that the 5D is old tech in DSLR terms, but the fact that's it's still sought-after 3 yrs on shows that Canon came up with a classic design :thumbs:

You've hit the nail on the head Chris. I have a 1D MkII and wanted a full frame also, bought a 1DsMkI and was so disappointed with the noise at ISO 400+. I sold it on and bought a new 5D - WOW what a difference.
