...that Sigma 12-24mm I've been umming and ahhing over for so long! Kerso was slightly pricier than OneStop in the end but for the piece of mind of dealing with someone I knew was reliable, and no chance of getting stung with - and having to claim back - taxes, I thought the odd few ££'a were worth it.

Hell - now I just have to try and stay reasonably calm while I'm waiting for it!

Congrats.....I'm humming and haawing about this one myself, so will love to hear what you think.

Others have advised me to get the Canon as it's more likely to hold its price better, but can't imagine selling! Have just read an excellent review of the Canon, but the cynical side of me wonders how independant these really are. I would like to stay true to Canon, (turning into a bit of a lens snob???)but those prices!! I'm after three lenses at the moment (trophy hunting???); a wide one and a longish one, both as fast as possible and a macro. If I win the lottery on Saturday, then its the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM + x2 converter, the 100mm macro and the 10-20mm. If not..........watch this space.

Excellent - you'll love it :)

congratulations

I ordered the 10-20 from onestop earlier today, decided on that one because I've seen what it can do and think its great, would be good to see what the 12-24 can do too :D

Really pleased for you :)

Cheers all. I was honestly still considering the 10-20 in spite of Jonny's advice (LOL!) but the news of the 1dMKIII being released (and the possibility of bargain priced MkIIn's!!) tipped the balance firmly in favour of this one. I've been putting off committing the money on the excuse that "I still wasn't sure" - I think I actually WAS quite sure, but just needed a boot up the **** to get it ordered!

I'll let you know what I think once it turns up! :D

Matt - you enjoy that 10-20mm too! I'll look forward to seeing the results!

hehehe........ all hand held in questionable light but you get the idea :)

Whoah!! It's that feeling of just being able to step right into the shot!

Oh boy I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do with Hebridean beaches! :)

It blows your mind - just watch out for your feet in the shot!

Grendel and Bubbs had a look through this lens too.... takes some getting used to in terms of perspective :)

Nice one Witch - look forward to seeing the results of your first shots!

Jonny that last shot's a stunner!

Super shots Johnny. Love that red room one.

Thanks Adam - it was a 'mood room' in an exhibition centre in Arhus. i was literally 3 metres from the lens!

Aaargh!!! :bang: Out of stock! Ian's doing his best to see if he can get hold opf one for me quick enough. I wonder if this is likely to mean that stocks everywhere are low? Otherwise if Ian can't I'll try Warehouse Express getting them to price match to Cameras2u or Jessops - whoever are cheapest at the moment according to camerapricebuster.

Ohno - what a pain!!!!! Hope you find one soon!

PS - decided to go IS; quid pro quo and all that ;)

Ah - a sensible move IMO. Worth every penny.

Definately no chance Ian can get the 12-24mm for a while so it's hey ho, hey ho, it's off to Warehouse Express I go....!

Seem to remember i bought mine in Jessops - purely because I've read so many Sigma QC horror stories that i want to test their lenses prior to purchase (and have somewhere convenient to return them to if necessary). I definately pay a premium for it, but i get peace of mind :)

Jon, I love the red room. do you rate that lens over the 10-20mm?

The 10-20 vignettes on a full frame anywhere below 17 or 18mm, but does allow front screw in filters. On a crop camera there is a fov equivalent of 16-32mm.

The 12-24 is a beauty - the same build quality but, to my eye, better colour rendition than the 10-20. Its slightly larger as you might expect not being a DC lens.

So, yes, I rate the 12-24 over the 10-20 with the only drawback being the huge bubble of a front element (it's nicknamed Popeye for a good reason) prevents front filters.

erm, last I heard it isn't...only canon and nikons are but not sigma's

I haven't done much research into it, but thats what the product page states:

All our Sigma products come with Sigma international warranty.

I might be wrong, they might be wrong, guess I'll find out if my lens ends up dying on me :bonk:

I did consider OneStop Matt - their price was definately competitive but I was wary of getting stung with import taxes and perhaps having to claim them back. I know they are good about refunding but....

I think it's most likely to be WE, with a pricematch with Jessops current online price.

Finally got it! Ended up getting it from Cameras 2 U who seemed quite good - rang me on Monday to clarify the fact that I'd got a different delivery address specified and make sure that everything was Ok on that front. Lens then arrived yesterday.

Put it on the 30D last night, looked through the viewfinder, said "wow!" and took it off again. It'll go back on on Saturday morning ready for the nice scenic drive from Stirling to North Uist! :D

So you got it from Jessops then (under one of their other names) :)

Yes, you know, just doing my bit in their light of their current troubles....!
I worked out that allowing for the respective delivery costs, even with their price match 125% thing WE would still be no cheaper!

Nice shot once again Jon - mine will be dealing with Hebridean beaches from Sunday! :D
