Been saving for such along time now to get Canon 70-200 2.8 mk2 and have finally just ordered it through Panamoz

Cheapest place I have seen anywhere, and if i pay by BACS I get a further 5% discount as no charges for credit cards etc etc.

Only thing they will not do is remove the VAT (I live in Channel Islands) but ti still works out a lot cheaper than anywhere else less the VAT

Just waiting for the email for them to send through for the payment details.

That's a decision you will not regret. It's a stonker of a lens

not sure how you would expect them to remove the UK vat when they are a HK company and therefore can't charge UK vat in the first place
It is the importers responsibility to make sure they pay all their own countries duties and taxes that are applicable

What i meant was likes of amazon, WEX and the like will remove the VAT when I buy from them as the product is being exported.

So the price Panomoz is selling it for is still a lot less than WEX or amazon less VAT.

As it should be given that they are paying no VAT import duty or other tax. WEX and Amazon would hapily match them if it wasn't incredibly dodgy legally!

That is because Amazon, WEX etc don't have to PAY the vat to mr taxman if it is being exported (but normally would).

Wheras Panamoz just don't pay the VAT to Mr Taxman...

It isn't the HK seller that charges UK vat it is the uk government via UK registered businesses
if you buy from HK as a UK resident YOU are the one that has not paid the VAT not the HK company
The simple solution and legally the correct one IMO is for the Uk buyer to declare the item to HM customs that he /she has imported

I think if you look at Panamoz's web site, they say Duty and VAT is covered by them, therefore it should be included in their pricing. By shipping to the Channel Islands, it is not required and could be removed.
However the real question is, do Panamoz actually pay the VAT and duty on UK deliveries, or is this being circumvented?

with most of these asian suppliers IMO it's more a case of they will reimburse you if you are charged any duty and vat by the delivery company upon delivery

I did ask about the VAT being removed and they said they cannot do that.

For what ever reason it is I do not know but I get that a lot from different companies, or they take VAT off and rip me off with posting so sometimes better just to pay it.
It costs no more to send a letter/small parcel here than it does to send one to anywhere in the UK, but if sent by courier then I get stuffed sometimes as they have to pay twice, once from their place to port then from port to Here.

To be totally honest them taking the VAT off would have brought the lens down to £1082.53 so i very much doubt they will pay the import duties but who am i to argue, I got my lens a lot cheaper than anywhere else where offering them even with the VAT off.

If Panamoz do not pay then I am still in the clear as it is getting exported again to over here.

This is my understanding of how the complex Uk taxation system would work in your instance
A HK registered company cannot charge you UK vat this is charged to the importer at the point of delivery ie to you
If you are based off shore and purchase from a UK registered retail company who are vat registered the price they advertise by law has to include vat and you can with the appropriate paper work have the vat content deducted if the seller is prepared to export the item to you off shore
HK registered companies do not and cannot charge you UK vat
Typically the item from HK is dispatched via a courier at a lower value and therefore no duty taxes or vat are charged by the delivery company so you cannot have deducted something that was never charged

I bought the same lens from the same place a few months ago and it's an absolute stunner. I just love it on both my 5D3 and 7D. If it's not on one body it'll be on the other, it's a permanent fixture at the moment.

Its an amazing lens thats for sure, just get ready for the weight of the thing its unreal.

Enjoy it.

Bloomin heck just looked and its heavier than my 100-400, not by much but heavier all the same.

I am sure the results will make up for it though

Same here - It's pretty much on my camera all the time.

On the VAT from I did read that HK has a special tax arrangement with the UK:

"HMRC has special arrangements that allow some overseas traders to charge, collect and pay over to us the import VAT for goods purchased by mail order, that would normally be chargeable at the time the goods are imported. These arrangements operate under Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signed with certain overseas customs and postal authorities. The countries that have an MoU with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) are: the Channel Islands, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand. Overseas traders wanting to use this procedure must be authorised to do so by their authorities.

Once authorised, foreign businesses are issued with a unique authorisation number, which they must show on the customs declaration or packaging. They will include the statement 'Import VAT Prepaid'."

Now I didn't know this until after I got my lens so I'd be interested if your package includes the "Import VAT Prepaid" and an auth number or not.

Woohoo got my lens today and tried it on the camera, it is so sharp its unreal well impressed with it.

Right on the VAT front it does not have "import VAT pre paid or any other wording about VAT.

What it does have is a description of the contents and these are stated as "Sample toy accessories - No Ba" so unless they pay VAT on sample toy accessories then they do not pay VAT on a £1300 lens.

So although they say they pay all import duties they do not pay for what is in the box.

Seriously how are people in anyway surprised by this? Everyone knows these companies dodge the tax how else could they be so much cheaper?

they aren't dodging uk duty and vat we are lol

If like people have said there website claims they cover the vat for you but there not paying it and leaving it the person purchasing the goods responsible there stitching people up good. Should HMRC start checking it looks like the buyer will get stung and I doubt Panamoz will cough up to reimburse you specially as there sending stuff as "toys"!
