Just ordered Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L mk2

wow - that is an expensive lens IS version, sure it will work out, seen some remarkable portraits from that lens

You won't be disappointed, I've got the original 70-200 f2.8 and I think it's a superb lens. Not cheap but worth the money, you get what you pay for.

If you don't mind a tip for the future, rather than risk spending all that money and not liking what you get try hiring the lens for a week before you buy. I think you can get the 70-200 f2.8 from several places online for a week for about £100. I'd gladly recommend lenses for hire to anyone looking to hire.

Enjoy your lens when it arrives

It's an amazing lens. One of the best I've owned. Stunning images and really gives the primes a run for the money in terms of image quality.

Was in the same position as you a few weeks ago, I'm still grinning each time I attach it, hope you enjoy it!

Thanks Barks, yes I did consider this for a long long time and you are dead right, it's a great way to find out if you like a lens. However, I read so many good things about the lens that I figured it would be a real surprise if I didn't like the lens. I'm also very impatient!

Cheers guys, loving the forum so far and will post up some results as soon as!

cant wait - As i say have seen some exceptional portraits on other forums with that lens

I've got the MkI version which is very good, specially when stopped down a bit, but have recently been thinking of selling the MkI and putting the rest toward the MkII. I started off with the F4 non IS version and eventually made the move to the 2.8 IS. I just really don't know if the MkII will be worth the extra £5-600 I'd have to put to it. Of course, if I win the lottery then the wife can have my MkI and I'll just be straight into a MkII.

I can wait till my funds hit the bank. I have been pondering over this baby for about 3 weeks now. (plus 1x4 extender)

I just hope I can get it before my canal barge holiday in July.

Any deals on where to buy and what's this Canon cash back thing??

Canon cash back finished on 5th June I am afraid:'(

You'll love it, probably my favourite lens, its a tie between this and the 100mm L macro!

Have fun with it:)

They are a fantastic lens, You don't mention which body you are going to be using but on my MKIV it is my main workhorse. I read a blog from Euro 2012 and the blogger was using the 1DX, he stated that the 70-200 IS mk2 on his 1DX worked even better than on his previous MKIV... How, I dont know..but I'd love to give it a go.

Enjoy the new lens when it arrives.

exactly my opinion.. i took a big chance on mine as i didnt get on wiht my previous canon 70-200 esp in low light.... its now my main lens and if i was told i could only keep one lens..this would be it...

i know what you mean re the 1dx..how could it be better haha the lens is so good now:)

Well it's here and I'm blown away. The speed of the focus and clarity alone are like nothing I've ever witnessed. I'm still a bit wounded after the cost but I know this thing will bring me a ton of joy so it's very worth it. I'll get some shots up soon.

I'm thinking about this as well - though i'm torn between that and saving my pennies for a sigma 120-300 f2.8

one that has a firm place on my shopping list...played with a friends one recently and surprised on the results...they were just epic...

Unless you need the extra length I'd go for 70-200 over the Sigma 120-300. It's smaller and lighter and in my opinion the 70-200 is just that little bit better in every way except length. And the 70-200 seems sharper at 200 than the 120-300 at 300 in my experience.

I own the 70-200 and have hired the siggy 120-300 on a couple of occasions where the extra length has been needed.

My brother has one. I dare not put it on my camera as I would then want one. He loves his.
