Has anyone ever met someone for the first time and just taken and instant dislike to them, for no apparent reason? This has just happened to me. The guy is someone with whom we have to have contact fairly regularly. He's polite, professional and nothing "inappropriate" or unacceptable in any way has happened. There's just something about him which doesn't sit well with me and the less I have to do with him, the better I'll like it.

Very strange for me, to be honest, as I'm normally the type who can get along with anyone.

How do you deal with this?

ETA ... Sorry about the title. Hit post before I'd typed it properly... Should say ... Just not liking someone ....

Yeah, I've had that happen.

If you have to have contact then I think all you can do is be professional and true to yourself.

If he's someone you have to deal with grit your teeth and do it, if he's not then just blank him out of your life

I had this with my wife's best friend, so I decided F*** her ...... turned out that wasn't the best idea

btw you can edit the title if you hit edit on your first post , I think

Plus, really not legal when she's dead lol

I've had this a few times in my life where my first impression/gut feeling about someone has instantly turned me off them, every single time it's be proved correct in the end ;) there are a few that didn't get caught by my s***head filter who I wish had unfortunately :(

Every guy who ever dated my daughter or had ever shown interest in her.....with the exception of her current partner, who is a nice guy

You're a good dad, I suspect :-)

Sadly, the person I dislike most in this world is married to my eldest brother, which has resulted in us being pretty much estranged. It's been 25 years ans I'd still happily escort her under a bus.

yes absolutely. I have an awesome likeness radar.

Generally if I instantly dislike someone its because they are a jerk. When my children were bron my wife was making lots of new friends as you do when you attened baby groups etc. Every single person that I instantly disliked my wife told me I was being unreasonable. But over the years they turned out to be jerks.

Yeah, it happens and I don't think anyone can really explain it. Maybe instinct or some sort of sixth sense?

I think it works the other way too though. Why do we sometimes 'relate' to a person we've just met, and know very little about? My wife and I met when we were 18. I don't know if it was 'love at first sight' but we both felt the same way. It was indefinable, but we just wanted to be together straight away, and it felt completely right. We did break up - I can't remember why - but we met again in Rhodesia a couple of years later and nothing had changed. We got married 6 months after that, and we're getting close to our 40th anniversary. No regrets at all!

I agree Martyn....you can definitely be instantly drawn to someone.

I don't see why anyone should expect to like everyone. Some people you just dislike. Sometimes there's a reason, sometimes there isn't. That's people for you. :)

I used to work around Parliament in the later part of the 80s. Got to deal with loads of MPs... disliked them all. Still do. No saving graces irrespective of party or personslity.

My feelings now extend down to local Parish Council level.
