I have just joined but have been around photography for a long- long- time. I still get my hands smelling of fixer though. I have been dragged into the world of digital not quite kicking and screaming, but I am still not comfortable with it.
I have more or less given up colour printing, more or less forced out because of the cost of colour paper and developer kits, but still print B&W with a passion, and will leave the colour side to the Canon Printer.

For now I am just working my way through the forum to see what others are doing and in time post some of my efforts.

Welcome John. I still use film for serious photography, and digital (using film camera lenses!) for anything like records or where I need to send photos out. I'm sure many here will envy you for having (I assume) a darkroom.

No assumption needed - I just checked your profile.

Welcome John. Sounds like you're a very experienced filmy. This is the right place!

Hello John!

Welcome to the forum John. In many ways digital and film are similar, but obviously the process is quite different between them. There's a very active group of film users here, as well as digital, and I'm sure you will find people who can identify with both workflows with you.

Thank you all for the welcome. And yes experienced with film from when I started working in the Police Lab processing peoples 'portraits' and some less pleasant things. I started with MPP 5x4 then to Medium format (Rollie, the jobs' not mine )and an amalgam of 35mm and med format (mine from over the years.) I made a killing when film camera prices dropped like a stone, when digital took over. Well, when you could buy an F6 2nd hand, boxed and hardly used, for less than £600 and now I could sell it for double that.

I used to print colour too, but the prices are just too much now, but I still use and develop colour film and scan on a Nikon Scanner and print up to A3 (That's when I feel lazy!

Just one question how do I upload pictures please? Cancel that, I have just seen the attach files button.

Welcome to the forum John, enjoy ;)

Welcome John! if you host you work online anywhere, please do drop a link if you're happy to - it'd be great to see what interests you :)

Welcome from me as well to the modern age of photography. Just think of all the gear needed to develope a photo in a dark room. The only thing I have left from those days is my Voighlander Vito CL camera long been relegated to a cupboard. Even DSLR cameras are becomming a thing of the past with mirrorless cameras taking over.
Being able to edited and print at home not in a dark room lit by a red bulb is so much easier

:welcome:

Hi John, plenty of film photographers on here. A lot of home developers too. (y)

I keep trying to like digital, but after fifteen years of trying; I still can't enjoy it as much.
