Just joined Twitter

im on twitter, didn't really use it much before i got my iphone, but always viewing it now, and with the odd tweet here and there...

use it mainly for keeping up to date with f1 news etc ect, with the odd bit of photography added in..

you can link up your site's rss, and flickr too, so it sends a tweet when you update either too http://twitterfeed.com/ does that for you :thumbs:

Twitter and Facebook couldn't be further apart in functionality.
The demographics are also somewhat different

One example of where Twitter has come into its own is the Coffee Industry, with cafes tweeting their specials, roasters engaging with consumers and reviews and feedback happening all the time. The coffee community is very active on Twitter and there has been a huge takeup.

There is no reason why Photography cannot be the same.
There are a growing number of retailers offering Twitter-only specials

Tweet-ups are easily arranged and sharing links / spreading the message is easy via Twitter

You can choose who you wish to follow and easily block spam.

I look forward to engaging with many of you on Twitter @getnoticed

I use TrueTwit so followers will have to click a link to verify they are human. This has eliminated 100% of spam

Twitter is just facebook status updates without the rest of the stuff that comes with facebook. There is no difference writing tweets as updating your status 50 times a day.

If you add someone on FB and watch your news feed it's the same thing as opening a twitter client and reading tweets.

I prefer twitter as I can go straight to the comments on my Blackberry and no mention of adopting farm animals, sucking someones lollies or any other FB b******s
 
I don't quite understand the lists part but it seems we are in mostly in agreement to add /tp as our preferred lists apart from Gordon Scott who is using /photography :shrug:

I'm just starting the lists thing... means you can get updates listed only from certain groups. I can filter out Stephen Fry and Wossy etc if I want to see my Photography buddies. BTW, I called in Photography because it has people from TP, Redbubble and inspi.re on it...

You can turn all of those off and only get status updates
 
Anyone know how to quote a tweet and send it to one of your contacts? Rather than manually typing in the contacts @name? Iam using tweetie2 btw

I 'think' I've added everyone on this thread now. Must admit, I started using it when I first signed up then didn't tweet for ages until I found this thread, now I'm using it all the time and really enjoying it.

Yep, as Tomas says, Tweetdeck is your friend :thumbs:. Excellent application for monitoring & updating twitter feeds and facebook in the same window. It also does My Space btw :)
 
I'm loving Tweetdeck at the moment, I can also update my Facebook business page through it too.

It takes 1 minute at the start to turn things off though and you'll never need to do it again, instead with twitter you have to sift through a load of random tweetings from one person to another that doesn't involve you and get very confused with all this @twitface business for the entrie time you use it, there are no turn off options.

very un-user friendly

facebook status, is just for friends to see, where as twitter, anyone can see it, and you can see anyone else's, if profile is not set to private

you only see tweets from people you want to, if you dont want to see someone's tweet's, you dont follow them simple

I've been on twitter for a while and I still don't have a clue as to it's purpose or how to use it. Seems like a totally pointless exercise to me :shrug:
