Off to Disneyland Paris in two weeks and just working out what kit to take and have decided on the following:

  • 2 Bodies
  • 2 Flashguns
  • 24-70 f2.8
  • 70-200 f2.8
  • Tripod

Now this will give me everything I need, but what if something fails on me? It's a paid shoot so I don't want to take any chances. If a body fails I have a second. If a flashgun fails I have a second. If the tripod fails it's wouldn't be the end of the world. But...what if one of the lenses fails! I have space for one more lens in the bag and I have the choice of the following:

  • 50-500: Not an option, way too big and heavy!
  • 18-250: Would cover all the focal lengths but not a fast lens and will be taking a lot of shots indoors
  • 28 f2.8: Seems like a viable option if the 24-70 breaks down, but wouldn't help if the 70-200 does (Although not anticipating using that much over 70mm)
  • 50 f1.4: Can't really see too much advantage here although very fast.
I'm sort of leaning towards the 28mm f2.8, but I would love to know if there is anything I haven't considered or have missed. Any thoughts? What sort of backups do you take as far as lenses are concerned?

Cheers

It sounds like you have enough kit for your normal needs, but the need for duplicates is a bit unusual. So why not hire a backup 70-200 (or similar)?

Thanks for the tip Stewart, but as I use Sony, hiring isn't really an option. And again, it would be a space/weight issue for me.

id stick the fifty in, dont think lenses break down that much, and if it is that urgent, im sure there must be a camera shop somewhere near.

Cheers fletch. Not sure there would be a decent camera shop in or around disneyland.

i swim a mile regularly,but may struggle with the other 20 or so.. ;)

better get practising then! :D

Hi Marc

If anything fails just get them to send me tickets and I will bring mine over

Sounds like a plan! ;)

At Disneyland, you're joking, what about all the big dipper candids ?

I can see 2 focal lengths, 24 & 200, the 28 covers wide, there's no cover for the 200, I'd take the 50 simply because its tiny and weighs nowt and gets you a mid range in an emergency.

I'd definitely stick the 50mm in....you say you will be doing a lot of indoor shots so it only makes sense really.....althought it depends on what type of indoor shots as you don't stipulate!! In which case the 28 may be the better choice...

the indoor shots will all be of people. Is the 28mm good for people shots? If it is crowded, it may be difficult to get far enough away with the 50mm. Gawd I'm even more confused than when I started! :bonk:

Thats's why I was thinking about the 18-250.

I thought you were making that up..

I don't know anything about it but, I wouldn't take it..

Or maybe I would, its better than nothing..

Nope, I'd go into Paris and buy something

ahh...oui oui, je voudrais une tasse de cafe sil vous plait...
