Spent a coupla hours this afternoon with my bargain basement Yashica Mat, a roll of Provia, tripod and the Dog. Wandering around some fields.
First time using a TLR of any kind. Huge smile on my face the whole time..I'll be amazed if I've got a keeper out of the 12.
Who cares....pass me another roll....just wanted to share...

Glad to hear you enjoyed your experience with it. I too started off my TLR experience with a Yashica Mat - they are so different to other types of camera, and I understand why some people don't like it - but for those who enjoy them, they are great fun. The 3D like waist level viewfinder, the massive negatives you'll get from such a relatively compact camera; get that next roll loaded!

Is it TLR's or is it the WLF factor ?

Had an EC for yonks, then it broke, but I thought I'd be ok cos I had my 6 RF.
Anyway, it wasn't ok, I missed the WLF so I bought a C220, and everything was ok again for a while.

Tbh, nothing was properly ok till I got another EC, but I blame the WLF factor for making me buy a TLR and subsequently another EC, in the first place.

:)

I'm happy it's brought a smile to your face Bro.
Can't wait to have a go.

A good question, but for me I think it is the TLR. Most SLRs with WLFs (anymore 3 lettered abbreviations?!) tend to have some sort of mirror slap which ruins the quiet nature of the leaf shutters that most of them employ - whereas a TLR has a leaf shutter and no mirror movement at all, which makes for a very discrete shooting experience. That's why I shoot street with mine.

I find TLRs a lot easier to work with too, they can be more discreet, less parts to worry about and a lot lighter than any 120 SLR above 645.

But it's a WLF thing for me too, I find it very useful that I can face one way and point the camera to my left or right without anyone noticing :p

I keep looking at TLR's and thinking they are just what I'm after.... I think I will have to bite the bullet and get one.

I encourage you to - like most film cameras, should you find it isn't for you it usually isn't too difficult to sell the camera on. Wanting to upgrade on the other hand... that can be expensive!

Mm, I'm looking to shift my Rollei MX-EVS and upgrade to a 3.5F... Although the Tessar on mine seems plenty sharp.

I say go for a meterless 3.5E - it offers essentially the same camera without the additional value that is placed on the 3.5Fs, especially the metered ones.

The MX-EVS has an excellent reputation though, and having shot with a Tessar (Xenar) on a Rolleicord Vb I can see why.

Hahaha I love the feeling you described!
I'm yet to shoot with any TLR but nothing can take the place of that euphoric feeling when shooting with something you love :}
