How much would it cost to have 2 sheets of double sided A3 paper printed and delivered to every house in Cheshire

I presume if Cheshire police do it so do all the others.

If they have the money to tell me crime is going down why don't they have the money to employ more Police officers.

I don't want a bit of paper telling me how they fiddle the figures to make me feel safe I want more coppers on the street.

even if this leaflet only cost 30k for the whole of Cheshire i'd still sooner have one more copper on the street.:bang:

I don't think I've ever had a circular from GMP.
Occasionally see coppers walking the beat too...coincidence? Probably :D

We've got a leaflet here advising that the areas one beat officer now has a bicycle...but as a result he now has three villages to cover :suspect:

Funnily enough it was the tory party that sent the leaflet round...presumably the plod was out doing his paper round at the time

I had that leaflet last week from Cheshire police

I'm thinking that the money for that will come from the council tax increases this year.

I feel I've got a bit of a vested interest in this one, since being a performance & research officer for Cheshire Police I may well have generated some of the data in the leaflet.

Basically, the Home Office makes us print these out and deliver them to every single house in the county. It is as much a frustration to those of us inside the organisation as to the general public, believe me. As a force, Cheshire are currently very short of money, and there are a couple of projects underway at the moment to try and make things more efficient and make savings.

The Home Office also sets upper and lower limits on the number of officers forces are allowed to employ, and if we breach either of those limits we get fined. We'd love to put more officers out on the streets, but we simply don't have the financial resources to do it, and even if we did, central government wouldn't let us.

I'm sure that the Cheshire Police are known as the Ghurkas - take no prisoners :police:

You get fined if you don't stick to limits :cuckoo: where do they think the money comes from.

a friend of mine had his motorbike nicked a couple of years ago, he rang up to report it and got the usual i'll give you a crime number response, however the closing statement surprised him a bit, she said "if you find it you will let us know"

They spend money on convincing us that there isn't a problem, instead of fixing that problem :bang: Then again, how much is increased policing going to fix the problem? It will certainly help things in the short term but really the Government needs to fund more projects to make our society a nicer place to live in, so people won't want to commit these crimes in the first place.

I've gone a bit off topic here, sorry

Just seen Cheshire police in action, standing having a pint in the local when 8 uniformed officers and a PCSO came in and started checking IDs, they found 2 17 year olds with beer

The fact the woods and bridge are strewn with broken glass and empty stella boxes by 14 years olds seemed to have been overlooked but hey 2 crimes solved for the statistics

or is that me being cynical.

Damn, now if the policemen having a pint were underage that would have been a fantastic story :D

There are usually about 4 or 5 gathered at the end of a 30mph dual carriageway near ours. They set up a car with a speed camera in the boot and pull up motorist after motorist after motorist doing over the speed limit. (50 down that particular stretch does not "feel" fast)

Only one of them can have a word and issue the ticket, I fail to see what the others are doing ?

As an employee of another local public service, you wouldn't believe the things central government make us do under threat of fines.

We're currently under a recruitment freeze. Pay award for April has been set at 0%. The threat of redundancies is hanging over all. We're trying to reduce budgets all over the place and yet the Labour government are throwing pointless projects at us with unrealistic compliance dates because they have no clue.

And the other guys are just as bad. We need real people running the country not politicians.

The problem is that as soon as a 'real person' starts to run the country, they become a 'politician' by definition surely? :)

If we don't like the current group of politicians (of any party) we can vote them out. And if we don't like any of the candidates, we can stand ourselves.

Anthony.

Mad isn't it? That's the public sector for you. Increased job security, a good pension and utterly ridiculous and petty beaurocracy. You'd be amazed at the things central government hand down that we have to do.
