I've just got my new D80, upgraded from my D40X and I'm "patiently" waiting for the battery to charge so I can try it out. Lots of new buttons to learn, but really looking forward to it.

Excellent! May you have many great clicks together. :D

nice one, cracking camera, bet it feels huge compared top the d40x dont it?

Thanks Daz.

Yes it does feel a lot bigger and it will probably be used more near home or when I'm out in the car. When I went to collect it at a local shop who sold it to be for £483, (price matched the internet, and very helpful in the shop) they asked me whether I would like to have a mint condition D200 which had just come in for the same price instead. I sadly had to decline as although I would have liked the D200 it was a massive 900 and something grams!

D80 doesn't feel too bad in weight as I am planning on using it with 24mm prime lens for landscapes. I just wish that battery would hurry up and charge up now.

HWG

Its a corker of a camera.... Had one for about a year and fine it a great camera.... Just got a second body, D200 and there is a huge difference in build quality.

Still be keeping the D80 but now got to learn the D200....

Cheers

Congrats on your new camera Barbara, can't wait to see your new enthusiasm that a new camera brings in your future posts. ;)

Congratulations on your new acquisition, a cracking camera by any measure.

Question now, what are your plans for the trusted-old D40x

Hi HWG,
Just joined you in the D80 club, about 1hr ago.
Look forward to learning how to use it.
Hope you enjoy it.

Congrats on the purchase. Im a D80 user also and can say its an amazing piece of kit! Enjoy:thumbs:

enjoy it, you will soon get used to the size, i used to have the grip on mine aswell

Excellent choice! My D80 served me really well but it was time for me to move onto the D300. I've also decided I want the D700!

:thankyou:Thanks everybody for your comments and good wishes.

Wail - I'm planning on keeping the D40X for when I don't want to carry the extra weight and using my AFS lenses.

Jamouga - the temptation to buy a new camera got too great, and the D80 did look rather nice.

Gary - hope to get out and take some pics next week, but at the moment we have some superfit friends down on hols, and we have been taking them out on some rather long walks, and the DSLR is just too heavy to carry that far, so Point and shoot in use at the moment.

Comus - I hope you enjoy your new camera and the lots of new buttons.

Excellent choice well done, while i love my D300 the D80 is great for things like automatic settings like portrait, landscape etc, it helps if you need to get a shot quick without worrying about settings, as i have i hope you have hours of fun with it, and be sure to post your results

Well done, on keeping the two ; I use a D40 as my point-and-shoot, for when I don't want to carry so much weight!

I'm happy with my D80. I've still got lots of learning to do, buts its been good fun so far:lol:

I have not got a clue on Nikons but hope you have hours of fun with it! :)
