for 520 delivered
all thats wrong with it is a loose barrel
and juddery when focusing but thats only intermitant

Me=:love: :D :D :D :D

Wife=:nono: :bat: :bat: : :bat: :bat: :nono:
Me=:help:

will be sent off with all my other stuff to get calibrated and fixed

Has any one else had this problem with this lens?

I wouldn't call it a bargain until you've had the bill for fixing it! Surely you contacted the repair centre up front for an estimate?

I sold my 70-200 2.8 IS MkI for close to £950 a few months ago so if you've got it for £520 + the repair fee and it's under £900 then you have got a bargain. Fingers crossed it's not going to be too expensive. I never had a problem with my lens and only sold it to put the money to a MkII.

My insurance will cover it
And I don't pay excess which is good
Will probably only pay for postage

Lens envy makes me want the mkii now though :-)

Hope you manage to get it sorted out and the cost isn't excessive, as they are a great lens.

How if you purchased it as a faulty item ?

it only had a loose barrel and i dropped it now the internal bit is loose
:)

:nono:we are all looking forward to our premium increase now:nono:

It was dropped today that's why
I don't do fraud I pay enough as it is
I was happy with the lens in its condition I got it
Now it's a bit worse I might as well fix it

That's not what you posted in post 1:shrug:

That's because there's 3 things wrong
Loose barrel
Juddery when focusing but intermittent
And now loose inside from dropping it and what looks like a plastic/screw bit visible when looking Down it

Are you declaring it was already faulty to your insurance? Or at they footing the bill for all the repairs now?

I will be saying what was already wrong and pay towards other costs incurred and they cover my damage

wow! ... give the guy a break

Totally agree

thank you

Why give the guy a break? He's back trcked from admitting insurance fraud faster than a get away driver at a bank job! Only half a dozen posts ago it was 'don't worry my insurance will cover it' now suddenly it's 'the insurance will only be paying for the drop damage'.

Which puts the thread right back to the start and my comment of it's only a bargain if the cost of repairs is less than the saving made on the purchase, but if we are rebooting the thread the OP will then say it's fine as insurance will cover it ................

It's up to you what you do with the insurance although you weren't looking advice on insurance so I will not interfere with that end of things, although if I feel really bored and have nothing better to do with my life and fancy an argument ill come back to this thread to slate you lol

Enjoy the lens, I hope you get it fixed for little money. I have one and love it.

Just because I have missed out details doesn't mean it's fraud
It works in the state it's in so I could just leave it at that

But because all my kit seems to be off with focus and broken bits i might as well get it fixed
So it's not just my insurance covering part of the one lens
If you believe it to be fraud you do that
I'll give you the details of the seller and he will tell you the internals where not loose or the black bit visible in the lens when he sold it to me

How did you manage to drop it?

If you had thought about claiming off your insurance policy to get this lens repaired, you made a big mistake announcing it on this forum, the best thing you can do now is send it to Canon Repair Centre in Elstree for repair, and then post a copy of the receipt on this thread.

Lol

Just got the lens back yesterday
There was a lot more wrong than first thought
They replaced the loose bit
Has a new auto focus system
Has a new front element
Has been away over a month

yep the insurance payed out for my damaged bits and I payed £150 for the front element and tightening plus £45 excess to fix the rest
they took it apart changed loads of bits put it back together then found the auto focus system wasn't working (when it had before) so changed that for a new one
so £670 total
