Just got an Air Fryer !

5 minutes in the Microwave, brush with oil, and rub in some salt, then 15 minutes on 200-210 in the Ninja on air fry. That's 20 minutes and perfect....

That does seem a long time, my fan oven does them in an hour from the raw state.
5mins per spud in the microwave, then 30 mins in the conventional fan oven.
Or as above from Steve.

I thought it was a while too, although the potatoes were quite big, King Edwards. I cooked them for an hour then checked them every 5 minutes or so after, as they were still quite hard in the middle. Smaller potatoes might take around an hour. (y)

Mum's still got hers!

I've got several of my Mum's. And some longer souvlaki ones, although I usually use bamboo skewers for actual souvlaki.

TBH, I don't do them that often. Besides, they taste much better "over there" anyway!

How true, it always does.

Do you have a nice neighbour to unbox it and put it on the worktop?

Does anyone know if an air fryer can take the place of a microwave? The Instant Vortex comes with a "re-heat" setting which makes me wonder......

Not mine at least, it just has basic oven controls, literally 2 knobs, one for temp the other for time. I wouldn't chance say a TV dinner type frozen meal in there, it'll cook from the off rather than defrost first

I guess it depends on what you use the microwave for.
My air fryer has a defrost function. Which Coincidentally, I tried last night.
It was far slower than a microwave.
And as other people of mentioned zap a baked spud in the microwave first, and then cook it in the air fryer.

6 minutes then check!

I'll be honest, I've had my Tower AF for a year now and had no clue what it's power was till now, just checked up and it's 2000w

One thing I have found when it comes to sweet potato fries is to keep check on them, they tend to start burning on ends a LOT faster than regular chips/fries. I haven't done them very often but I remember turning the heat down second time because they starting burning the first, I'd go safe and start at 160 and increses the time a little, checking half way

Well, it's been chritened and wow! Aunt bessie's chips never tasted better! :D
You can make your own you know :D

Fish fingers in a brioche bun, with a bit of mayo & pepper - staple lunchtime eating....

I'll see your fish fingers and raise you air fried crispy bacon, in a home baked baguette.

When I got my AF I was making my own chips and wedges, but tbh [and lazy!] the ones you buy pre-cut are just as good, once you find the right brand for you. Saves so much time.

Tonight I did Diggers brand chicken balls, they've been on regular rotation as they turn out just like you'd expect from a decent Chinese take-away, golden crispy from the AF and proper chicken breast inside - combined with this Chinese curry sauce they are delicious

Curry powder:
Chicken balls: https://www.tesco.ie/groceries/en-IE/products/314706857

Generally you get 12 chicken balls in that 'family' pack but I feel a bit robbed tonight, only got 11

That sauce is just prefect if you don't like it too spicey, it's what you'd expect from a mild Chinese take-away curry, very more-ish, you get 3 rounds of it per pack that easily covers 3-4 people per serving.

Duly checked out, looks interesting (y)
I see that they are now adding air-fry cooking to the serving suggestions.

The diggers range in general are decent I find, have tried their buffalo wings [whatever coating they use I love!] all of their tenders, those chicken balls of course and their burgers are tops too

The chicken balls are pretty chunky, not weedy little things you get from some brands, and like I said proper breast in there too and their coatings always seem decent - herself always ask me to cut them up because they're too big :ROFLMAO: - you can easily cut them in quarters [after air frying] which also works really well for a crispy stir fry (y)

TBH I've never heard of them, but I'll look for them next time I go the Tesco Xtra shop.
The local express, is very light on things like that.

I actually didn't realise they hail out of Dublin until I seen the run down in the link I posted - Tesco here always stock them, no idea if they've reached UK

no idea if they've reached UK
I'll find out in the next week or two,
Edited to add, the local-ish Xtra has balls, and 2 different shredded chicken products @ £3:50 ea.
:)

On a serious note make sure if you're paying £3.50 that you're getting the family pack, as they have a smaller weight pack too - 320g vs 480g
The ones I found were the 320g ones at that price.

iceland do some realy great deals for great air fryer stuff in there 3 for 10 bags
these are my current crowd pleasers a few of these with a nice ceaser salad and some rice

I guess it's much the same those ones are €4.10 here I think, the larger pack €6, but they often have a deal 2 for 10 on the larger pack , it's been so long since I shopped any UK site I forget what conversion rate is these days

Having party food for dinner tonight (it's a tradition). Pigs in blankets, frozen mac & cheese bites and tempura prawns. Goo8gling tells me to reduce temperature by 20 degrees and time by 20-25% to convert from oven to air fryer. Does this meet experiences from people here?
That's sounds about right to me Marc.
We started by looking at the roast times quoted. Then experimented from there. What you quote is about where we ended up. I think the secret in the early days is to shake and check often.
