As per the subject really?

Just wondering if there are setting changes or set up things that I should know about?

this

also on many an occasion when playing a game for the first time do not expect to be playing it as soon as you start it, there can be some pretty hefty updates.

Indeed,

back in the day of cartridges (Super mario, duck hunt, sonic ect), there was no update issues, just whack the cart in and play

Set up an amercan psn account, the us store gets more demos added every week than the us version, dont get sucked into ps plus.

Take it back and get a XBox 360 ;)

Make sure it's ventilated properly, so it can't overheat?

Or get both? Ps3 is great value now, bluray player built in, free online gaming, no brainer really..

Set up the audio and video properly, upscaling of DVD is ace, blurry picture and sound are ace. If you have a 1080p set and you connect via hdmi, turn sharpening down on that connection if your tv allows as over sharpened upscaling and HD looks crap.

Audio out, do you have a receiver, sound bar, or other surround sound?

there's always one.

take the advice if you fancy paying m$ to just play online

but the xbox is the way

xbox is 10 times better for gaming , if there is a update for a game it doesnt take long the ps3 takes the biscuit when updating

as for films and music etc then i would agree with the ps3 (bbc iplayer etc ) but xbox does have sky player

this is why i have both i mainly play xbox but i do have the odd game that is only available on ps3

if you are a begginer ps3 is probally the way if more advanced play xbox

quick example for online on all the call of duty's or similar games i tend to be top of the table ie 1st or 2nd each game but with the xbox this is alot harder to achive and a few friends have said the same the find it harder on xbox 360 than the ps3

I think there are just more people that have an xbox 360... I've had one for 5 years nearly!

Thanks for the advice!

Matt - you say set up the audio and video properly - any guidance on the best settings on the PS3? (My TV's set up well already - sharpening, auto boost etc all off, color balance is pretty close)

:bang: there's a reason MS charge

Anyway back on subject i was only joking as i have both, the PS3 is a excellent bluray player and great for media streaming from a PC or Server.

The setting really depend what you are connecting to, as matty said do you have a home cinema setup or are you just using the TV's on board sound ?

Got a home cinema set up (albeit an aging one!) that has an optical in for audio - but no other digital inputs. With my Xbox I had hdmi to TV and separate optical for audio - I assume that's possible with the PS3?

How I've done mine is to take the optical out on the TV and plug it into the receiver, that way it does the sound from both the xBox and the PS3, which ever is being used at the time, without having to switch cables

:)

Will have to check if my TV has an optical out!

And yep - will have Black Ops, but I'm more of a Fifa man!

Only thing i can add if you are going to use it for blu-rays get a remote for it, as it drove me mad trying to use the controllers for them.

10 times better? really? i have both, and there really isnt much difference, the only thing the xbox will do is cross game chat, but thats not a problem. Downloads take a little longer for updates but not much, i put that down to my ps3 being wireless(out of the box I might add) Being a beginner or advanced makes no odds, thats just kool aid talking. I get the same results playing on the xbox as i do on ps3

sales for both consoles are 53m for MS and 50m for sony. given that MS had a full year to market and a £150 - £200 per unit advantage, and a 33% fail rate on early machines, I would think that its only a matter of time before the PS3 starts to outsell it worldwide. I dont know sales figures for each region though

i'll go through the settings tomorrow and let you know

Yes, the PS3 will allow you to output audio HDMI and DA simultaneously, you can output very good audio with either, go to audio settings and select all formats for output, the receiver will then take what it wants.

agreed, well worth doing.

ive got mine set to linear PCM out on the audio side, but ive selected pretty much all audio outputs for the machine to pick the best one for either the receiver or the TV

video out
24frame on Auto
sYRB on
50hz On
most other settings to auto.
Sharpening to Medium, it really doesnt need to be any higher
Upscaling On but to a mid setting, not max setting

Pretty much what I had - never sure whether to do the upscaling at the playback device or leave it for the TV to do. Might have a play later!

i have a samsung LCD, upscaling on PS3 is far superior IMHO

I thing I will never be without is a set of turtle beach head set. I love playing BFBC2 and someone is trying to sneak up behind you to TRY and stab you and you hear the footsteps, then BOOM they are so shocked that you turned around and popped them lol had so much hate mail for doing that :D
