Yes
... took longer than normal but all ok! who else give blood and how many times?

come on lets form a tp blood donour group!

Somewhere between 25 and 30 armfuls of finest A+ :D

I'm up to ten next time. Everyone should do it. I can not think of a reason why you shouldnt (provided you pass the tests and answer the questions right that is).

I hate needles but do it anyway. You never know when you may need some back !

Did my 25th in September.
Also had a letter recenty, thanking me for attending all the sessions this year, if I take the letter to the next one I get a "secial" slate coaster.

Anyone else had the letter ?

i would like to but i couldnt bring myself to do it, simply for the fact that i wouldnt even get to the donor session before i curled up and colapsed

Good man :clap: I've given since 18 and have given 35 donations so far

Plasma & platelets for me. Better than Greenshield stamps!

For all of you who are scared, of giveing blood it is easy, and painless. You just walk in, sit down and they prick your finger, with a needle and thats is it.

my first platelet attempt didnt go so well but asked for them to re test me to see if i can have another go.

You need a donor attendant to sit with you for the hour, tickling your arm. Just think of her as a nurse and you'll be OK . . .

But they promised tea & biscuits!

Yes but I thought, it would be a bit greedy haveing tea and biscuits. As it only took 30 secs to give my blood.

Got out of the habit lately, but have the first badge - is that 10 goes...?

I got the slate coaster letter recently as well.

To those who havent.... go do it!

I used to give blood but tested good for platelets, I enjoy the experience more than giving blood, armchair seating, television, limitless coffee/tea/choccy biscuits. chat with the nurses :). Up to six of us at any one time, get to know folk and you get to be on first name terms with the nursing staff, I do it every month and it takes over an hour but I look upon it as a time to chill out.

I was fine - my platelets were jsut really low

I went with my hubbie once who's a regular donor because I felt I should donate too. They got me onto the bed next to him just before I passed out. They gave me one word of advice - 'Don't'. :(
So I don't. I'd be more trouble to them than getting my blood, so they'd rather I didn't

I've given a few pints in my time painless effortless no worries at all
Ok whilst we are bragging show us your blood group A+ for me

Oh I gave some blood once... :D
Just the once though  As I understand you got a little "cross" at the whole episode

I try, went a couple of weeks ago and they gave up trying to find a vein. My body doesn't like to part unfortunately. Told me my veins are too small. I've given about 5 times before. I'll try again next time.

I expected bad bruising after 5 minutes of trying to hit target but it wasn't too bad, my arm just felt a bit stiff.

I think I have particularly poor circulation, probably why I'm so flipping cold all the time.

Used to give blood on a regular basis, and was on the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow donar list. I got shortlisted a couple of times but i was not a close enough match, but i hit lucky on the third time (2004) i was shortlisted and was sent down to London to have a load of Bone Marrow removed (Bloody Big needles in the hip bone to 'suck' out the marrow ). This was then sent over to Scandanavia and the recipient was a young girl of 7 which was around the same age as my eldest was at the time.

I had a couple of follow-up calls from the Anthony Nolan Trust who informed me that the donation was a 100% sucess and the young girl was on the mend and making a good recovery.

I have since found out that she has been given the all clear, which gives me that lovely warm fuzzy feeling inside :)

As soon as i am able i will be back giving blood (Must chase this up....)

My wife was the same. Coz I gave blood frequently I talked her into doing it. She had a severe reaction to the blood taking and ended up having to be revived 3 times. She was told it was in her best interests to never ever do it again. As this was happening I was in the next bed still giving blood and having to watch them working away on my wife...........never felt so helpless in my life.

always interested in doing something like that - does it hurt!

A little, but it dies down over a week or so.

Its worth signing up for, as at any time following selection you can 'drop-out' if you feel unsure. There is also a non-invasive harvesting of cells that some people choose.

Unfortunately I can not give blood, I am on anticoagulants for life, as a result its a no no for me. :(
