Picked the car up from the Airport car park today & noticed I've got a 6 inch crack in the windscreen near the dashboard, must have happened when I was driving there in the dark last week.....

Phoned Autoglass (as per Insurance) and found out it's a two week wait for a new screen... "we don't keep those screens in stock"

Never realised that a Vauxhall Insignia was some kind of rare exotica ;)

Luckily the car is safe to drive while I wait !

Could be worse, could be a rented Land Cruiser without screen insurance...

I've got a very rare motorbike, despite it being a current production model. Possibly the biggest insurance broker for motorcycles can no longer insure it. Not a superbike or even highly desirable, just a bog standard Royal Enfield Bullet 500. Luckily, Saga (some compensation for getting older, I suppose!) have heard of it and can insure it and as a bonus are considerably cheaper for the pair (Triumph Speedmaster as well) than Bennets quoted for just the Triumph.

DeJongi is having even bigger problems getting a screen for his Merc - see assorted posts in the WAMT thread.

We have a Golf Mk4 - on it's third replacement screen - always asked the same questions

Does it have a shade or not?
Do you have the chassis number showing on the nearside?
Do you have this?
Do you have that?

Things are more tricky now that cars are fitted with HUDs, Lane departure warning, heaeting elements, auto-wipe etc.etc,

Many, many years ago I had a Mk3 Astra (1997 model) at about the time Air conditioning and bumper painting was becoming more common. One Boxing Day, parent's neighbour backs into Peggy (car had a name), 3 day repair job at local garage, given a horrid Suzuki. Day 3 get a phone call, sorry we need your car for 2 more days...

Garage, sourced new bumper, painted it, fitted fog lamps and number plate - went to fit it to the car and it wouldn't go on - it was for a non-ac car. So even back then even the humble bumper could be had in several flavours (painted/half-painted/fully painted; ac / non-ac; fog lamps or no fog lamps). I heard similar stories from others

I bet nobody on the forum can beat the rareness of my car - 38 ever produced. Fortunately it's only the colour that makes it that rare, as a model it's one of a common as muck 370 produced. Parts aren't hard to come by as such, as most are shared with the non rare models, but the bits that make it rare mean £££££ and buying from Japan.

Try finding a front bumper for a '97 XK8...

I wasn't going to mention names, Smasher!!! Brian knows who I was referring to. And keep your arse to yourself. DEFINITELY no :P!!!

oh no and i just found out i need a new running light bulb in the mondeo ,,whats that gonna cost :exit::exit:or shall i just use :mooning: light

Oh ffs don't talk to me about auto windscreens. Grrr it's taken four visits and two months to get the one replaced on our car.

I thought that was to not get one replaced, or has the deed at last be done.
Nope still not. The last visit, yesterday, after an escalation to their CEO ended up in an engineer showing up without a windscreen to establish it had a crack. He didn't have a windscreen as there was none in stock.

When we needed one there was one second hand one available and that needed sorting before it was useable. New was un economically viable.

I've just bought a Maserati , it needs a bit of paintwork around the rear window which to get the best result would mean taking it out , I've just priced up a replacement if they break it , over £1500

I might just buy some silver hammerite

Less than 2000 of mine ever made, less than 800 still on the road. Mine was the only one in my colour combination, and has unique grafitti under the carpets, coltrol boxes made my tina and carol... :D

and theres a 4-6 weeks wait for windscreens curently - no stock
