Ive nearly completed my evening class - which is extremely basic - although it didnt stop me continuing to struggle to grasp those basics. I was out for a while on Monday at Stirling Castle and dont feel I managed to get a good shot at all - they all tended to be too dark with no detail in the distance and I also felt that I lacked any creativity with my composition, it left me a little down......all in good time though, eh!

Ive just enrolled for the City and Guilds Basic Photography course - a distance learning one, Im sure there are many on here who have completed it. I cant wait for the course material to come through, I think there are project/s in the course which will be great - especially if I am getting professional (constructive) criticism on them.

Anyway....perhaps a pointless post, but just wanted to share my news and excitement!

Never a pointless post! Good luck with your new course, and you know where to come if you get stuck!

Tis indeed at college.

Initially its just going to be the basic one, then onwards and upwards!

good luck with your new course! - I'm starting a beginners photography evening class in Jan (prob similar to the one you've just completed :) )

Im signed up for a beginners 10 week course in Jan too. I`ll see how this one goes and then hopefully move onto a Btec one in september.

Well, that`s the plan.....

got my course materials through last night (1st module only) - I was surprised at how much is involved in the 1st part! Lots of Q & A sheets, projects etc...

Im looking forward to getting my teeth into it!

I find that with Photography you never stop learning, however old you are or how experienced you may be

hi

i fancy doing a beginners course - can anyone recommend one in london?
pref central london although i am south london based

I did my beginners course in Photography @ Liverpool Community college and i thoroughly enjoyed it! It was only 10 weeks but covered quite alot and i was gutted when it finished! HOWEVER, i am now doing level 2 which is a year at the same college and i am learning even more stuff which is fascinating and rewarding!

hi

i have been looking for a beginners course in london and there are so many to choose from - has anyone completed one in central london that they would recommend - it has to be evenings or weekends and for complete beginners

thanks

MissDaisies - is there a website for the distance learning course your doing? I'm quite interested in doing one once I finish the night classes I'm doing

Hi

Im doing the City and Guilds one through ICS

http://www.icslearn.co.uk/creative-skills-leisure-courses/photography/basic-photography/

Ive still not started - im not sure whats holding me back, Ive read the course materials, think Im just a wee bit nervous of it!:shrug:

Also, this course can be paid monthly if you dont want to fork out the full fee straight away

IIRC some courses can be paid via Tesco club points @ 4 times the face value, OU being one.

I also felt that I lacked any creativity with my composition, it left me a little down

Sharon

Haha

Been there, done that bought the T shirt.

Don't feel down about it, just keep those eyes open and it'll come. All the courses in the world won't change what you see, but take it slowly, look around you and it'll come.

Hi all,

Im new to this website and I'm getting back into photography after about a 15 year break..
I used to take photos when I was serving in the Army..but since I left I havent been as active..

However I have now bought a Nikon D40X with a 55-135mm lens..

I notice you were all talking about on-line courses..especially the C&G course.. Do you recommend this course or do you have some other suggestions.

Hi and welcome, im fairly new as well and thoroughly enjoying being here!

Ive not really started the course, but it certainly looks like a good one - perhaps the course material could be better though....

There are a few others on the ICS website that look good as well. Another that I wanted to do was the Professional Photographty Diploma - you should be able to google it. I plan to do another few night classes and maybe some more distance learning but really just want to get out there and shooting - practice makes perfect!! (if thats the case, I should be out shooting 24 hours a day ;) )

I really do think we need a courses section or a learning section for those of us who are currently studying the same courses - it would be an invaluable resource!
