Hi folks, been wondering something about studio strobes after reading a few threads in the lighting forum. They aren't something I own or intend buying but I was wondering just out of curiousity, how are they triggered?

Are they wired to the camera somehow or do they use the same kind of triggers that flashguns do like the cactus ones and pocket wizards I have read about? Sorry if it's a pretty silly question, I was just curious and don't really know anything about them.

Tommy.

They can be triggered in various ways, like any other flash. In fact they are much more simple than hotshoe flashes because they're 'dumb' and only need an electric circuit to close in order for them to fire.
1. Flash from another flash, e.g. studio flash, built in camera flash, hotshoe flash
2. Flash from infra red trigger
3. Direct connection to camera, i.e. synch cord
4. Radio trigger on camera, radio receiver on flash

All thye are is a BIg flashgun on a stand.....
