Sold the last one and missed it as soon as it went so I've been on the lookout for another

Found one last week on eBay , a 1995 90
BIN with a scant description but it looked good so I went for it

The seller was the nicest guy I've ever met

After me buying it he took it for a full service including a cambelt, drove it down from Ayrshire to me because he had a friend that lives locally , delivered it with 1/2 a tank of diesel still in it then left me with £100 of the payment in case i found anything after he'd gone, if I didn't I could send him a cheque

I don't think I've met someone so honest since meeting Paul and Sharon at oulton park :D

Have you HPI'd it?

Sounds very good, just hope it really is. I'm uber cautious of nice people, especially when cars are involved.
I've just bought a disco 2. I wanted a defender, but my back just couldn't hack it.

My fellow was also nice, the son of a very rich and knighted energy company CEO. they all lived on a big estate in the country together. His dad has just bought a D4 and he was selling this disco to buy a 110.

Looking forward to the snow!

Hope your getting the roof reinforced for the bsb then :;):

Next time I get bogged down at Oulton, I know who to see. LOL
See you soon.

I want a roof rack for it but all the ones I'm finding seem to be 24 carat gold with diamonds for reflectors, they must be for the price they're asking

yes, it's clean

there are still genuine people out there

I don't need a land rover for that :D

You can take the man out of the Land Rover but not the Land Rover out of the man :D

A wise purchase ... enjoy

I'm about to go the other way at work and get rid of the defender 90 next financial year -at 18mpg its a fuel hog and a damned uncomfortable one at that.

I miss my disco, it's only a 300tdi and it's covered in scratches but it's my truck. Must fix it soon, wish I had it for winter instead of my ka!

no its a standard tdi - and i'll miss it like a hole in the head , its slow, its uncomfortable, its noisy, its basic, its expensive to repair when it goes wrong (it had a head gasket and a clutch last year and its only got about 65k on it), its expensive to run , and it can only carry two.

its only good point is its grunt when pulling heavy loads off road , but we do that so rarely that if i do come across a job that the ford ranger can't pull i could always hire a landrover for a specific project

the replacement for the landrover will probably be either a jimny or a vw caddy van ( ive already swapped our 110 for a caddy maxi - the 110 had all the bad points of the 90 and was also gutless when towing heavy loads)

I found the little jimnys to be pretty poor on fuel too considering the engine size

The best thing you could do with that is run it into the local diesel injection shop because it should do more than that to the gallon, although that said I had a 110 high cap 2.5td that returned terrible mpg from new, but not that low.
From my experience Land Rovers are one of the cheapest vehicles out there to repair yourself, because they are so popular there are loads of pattern part manufacturers (although one in particular I avoid)
Maybe it only lasted 65k because pattern parts from that certain company were used.
Yes they are noisy and basic but they are a bit like marmite :)
At some point in my life I will finish rebuilding my 1996 130, but it's a complete rebuild with new galv chassis, hot zinc sprayed bulkhead and every part rebuilt or renewed, and then every rebuilt part being shot blasted & repainted, but it's taking forever in my very limited spare time :(

our 90 - and a few of our many logs

im sorry but why are there no pictures in this thread yet !!!

Because I've started taking it apart :D, it came with series 3 doors on so now it has defender doors on that are a different colour, it's going to get a front garden respray but it's too cold and damp this time of year

Series 3 doors are back on, I should have checked the striker plates were the same, I thought it looked too easy :D
