Why did I do that I wonder?

Well earlier this year I sold my Oly OM1, 2 and 4 (never quite had the funds for a 3) and always rather regretted doing so. I tended to use just a 50mm lens so wasn't worried by the loss of the other lenses I had in shorter and longer focal lengths.

At the same time I continued to collect Mamiya 35mm cameras - rangefinders and SLRs - because, well, they were a bit unusual. I sold all my Canon FL/FD mount cameras and don't miss them at all. I kept my two EF mount 35mm Canons an EOS 1N and an EOS 3 and use them a lot.

I wonder if this is the start of something which could end up in the disposal/dispersal of the Mamiya collection and the reduction in the overall fleet of 35mm cameras?

I've had a brief fling with folders but whilst enjoying the ergonomics of them I have not been thrilled by any of the MF 120 folders I've tried but do get real pleasure from a Kodak Retinette: it's a truly pocketable camera and unless I happen to have a light meter with me it's a "think it through and dial it it" piece of equipment which makes me think about exposure.

Now I need to buy an Oly 50mm lens but there's no hurry...

Best thing about the OMs for me are the viewfinders. Big, bright and uncluttered.

First decent SLR I owned was an OM-1n, worked all summer when I was in the 6th form, back in the late 70's to earn the money for the body. I have bought and sold many cameras in the intervening decades but still have that original OM. Couldn't bring myself to sell it. I should shoot with it though, it currently still sits in its box with the original sales receipt.

It's time it was liberated..

+1, with the exception of Pentax, Olympus viewfinders are unsurpassed.

I always have a bit of a wow moment when I switch from the pathetic Nikon one back to my OMs...

Depends which Nikon - my FE2 is significantly brighter than say a Pentax MX, a camera often touted for its excellent viewfinder (which, with all due respect, is an accolade well earned).

Oh dear............my T90 with flash gun attached was knocked off a table and the flash bracket snapped off. but the hot shoe on the T90 was undamaged.

The moral of the story is:- don't knocked a OM with flash gun attached, onto the floor, as it would tear off the OM's hot shoe :)

Not a bad decision if you ask me. Of all my cameras I find I use the om 10 the most. There's just something about it.

Olympus OM10

This was the first SLR camera that I bought, back in the day.

I've still got it and funnily enough put some batteries in it last week with a view to putting a roll of film through it. It will be the first time it has been used in around 20 years.:)

I love my OM2n, I use it every week. It's a great build, wonderful to handle and, it sounds silly to say but, makes me feel more confident when I'm using it!
I'm fond of the Japanese slrs of the 70s and 80s but none in my collection compare to the OM2n.

Thanks to Ed Bray for selling it to me via this site! Now I need another one so I can shoot in colour too!
