Meet my new lens : Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 HSM EX - It’s a beast !
Out with the old and in with the new :)

No time for sample images today - I'll post some tomorrow. I'm also still waiting for my 1.4 extender to arrive.

Looks good. I am very interested in seeing the results as I'm currently looking for a 300mm myself.

I think I'm right in saying that JoeT uses one of these too and has been delighted with it. It was one of the lenses that was on my Shortlist before I settled on my 70-200 f2.8 - the decider in the end was that, although the 120-300 would have been a cracker for shooting speedway from up on the terraces, my focus last season was always going to be trying to get more centre-green bases gigs, and for that, it was always going to be too long at the short end.

Looking forward to seeing some results with this one!

the 100-400 isn't exactly little, that things a beast :D

All impatient for pics i think, looking forward to some myself...its..MMMoonster

I use mine every week.. its all I shoot sport with :) brilliant lens and versatile :)

I'm not envious at all... ;)

If I spend any more money on my gear it will be for this beasty!

Where did this persona of canon L glass being so magical come from? They just use higher quality glass just like any other manufacture. Infact i wouldn't be surprised if a large amount of the sigma range have better optics than a lot of canon L lens.

As for the 120-300, i've heard its an awesome piece of kit, and its defiantly on my wish list.

I only had a short play, but the 100-300 Siggy seemed nicer to use than the 100-400L, and razor sharp to boot. I know which I hope to be getting.

Also, owning Nikon helps. ;)

ok we have waited far too long wheres the pickies
Oh & enjoy the lens

surely an L series canon is better glass? is it really a better lens or is a male thing about size? ;)

The sigma 120-300 is f2.8 throughout the range which is very important for sports and/or low light photogrqaphy... the canon 100-400 doesn't even begin to compare in that area.

I have had 2X 100-400's both very sharp lenses,I have tried the sig 120-300 and it did seem a lot better than the 100-400. but in the end I opted for the canon 300 prime
and now I am happy.;)

SDK you will not be disappointed I threw in my 100-400 and got mine with the help of JoeT a couple of weeks ago :-

Looks good from where I am sitting. Now I have the dilemma, do I get the 120-300 or the 300mm prime.

Thanks Joe i'll look into that.
Can I still attach/use the lens collar with a lenscoat installed?

Speaking as the lucky purchaser of the 100-400 - I wish him well with the new toy !

But no jealousy here, I long wanted the 100-400 and will give it a good home. Incidentally the 300 prime was second on my wish list, but this one came up first.

Having recently embraced digital - the only distance lens I had was a VERY old (but still good) Canon 100-300 f5,6

Time, place, available cash - all considerations !
