Now what film to buy- I haven't a clue.
I would like something quite rich and deep in colours.

Kodak Ektar, probably. Velvia's colours are amazing, but slide film is probably a bit of a stretch for the first roll through it.

Having said that, if there's a Poundland near you, then I'd get a roll of their AGFA Vista for £1 and put that through. It might not have the colours you want (although I like them) but it'll also only cost you a quid if the camera is a dud.

I will have a look in poundland at the weekend.
Good idea really to just put the cheapest through for testing to check its ok.
Exciting times ahead!!

As Keith rightly says, some Vista for testing and some Ektar for lush, vivid color.

Exciting times. :D

How can you not love a camera who's makers name translates to 'Acorn Grove'?
That Agfa film converts nicely to mono by the way!
Enjoy some 'real' photography!

So first test roll shot and ready to take to Max Spielman tomorrow for 1 hour processing. I was rushing to use up the roll which basically goes against my whole reason for wanting to get into film. But this was just a roll to check the camera works. I can only imagine what a mess I have made exposure wise as I was kind of sunny 16 mixed with a bit of iPhone light meter and also swapping settings form my digital camera onto the film camera.
But the most important thing about today was that I had fun!
And the excitement now of wondering what will appear tomorrow is truly refreshing.
I guess I should get a copy on cd otherwise I will have no other way of getting them on the pc. I do have a cheap canon printer/fax/scanner so maybe use that instead of the cd? Or will that just be a really poor option to choose?

Get the CD! Much easier method. Plus you always have a copy.
Make sure you get the Hi Res scan tho.

Also, an all in one printer/scanner won't scan your negatives (although you could scan prints if you get them).

Actually you might be surprised, Steve. I scanned some 6*9 black and white negatives on an all-in-one and inverted them with GIMP, and I was surprised at how well it went. This is the inverted version of the set of negatives:

... and this is one of the negatives scanned by my (then, now defunct) local camera shop for some exorbitant price:

I wouldn't say it was much better...

Well i now know the lens on this camera is not clean! At least my shots came out in focus so I was happy that my first attempt at focusing a range finder was a success. These are the best 3.......yeah not great but this was just about seeing if I like focusing a rangefinder and to test the £10 Petri.

h'mm Lens clean? it looks like vaseline is smeared on the lens, but great for Hollywood glamour shots of women.;)

It's clear you (or the camera, cos we all know it's down to the camera really :)) have a flare for this kind of photography. Quite a lot of flare actually.
