Yes
I've been happy with my Clio diesel for the past 5 years, never had any issue with it and I was in no rush to get another car. Then I got a 'cold call' the other night from the local Ranault garage and they asked if they could talk to me about trading the car in.

So in a nutshell, I have (or will hopefully have if all goes to plan) an 08 plate Megane with all the fancy gizmos that I had in the Clio and one or two more - for the same monthly price as I was paying for a 53 plate Clio. So I take a week off work just to 'use some of my days up' and end up getting another car :)

Should be here in a week or so. :woot:

Sucker . . . .

Sorry, couldn't resist. Enjoy !!

Hi

The megane is a lovely car but have you worked how much the deal has really cost you. Multipy the monthly payment by the number of months minus the monthly payment x the amount of months left on the clio

stew

I know what you're saying artona, my last payment for the Clio would be next September, by then though the car would be nearly 6 years old and I would be looking to buy again. So now I have a car that was £15,900ish when registered with the 08 plate a few months back, for just shy of £8,000.

thinking a monthly cost on your car is the way forward. WHo wants a lump of metal on the drive costing them money. I work in business finance, and had a customer ring me the other day. He had £8 left on a £15k loan that he took over 5 years about 2 1/2 years ago. He wanted to part ex the car in for a new one.

The only problem is that his £15k car 2 1/2 years ago is now worth.......

£4k.

Yes he has lost £11k in 2 1/2 years. That is £366 pounds per month. Down the pan. He could have had a really nice Audi or something on contract hire for that, and he would now be in a position to change it for a new one, which he now can't do.

Enjoy the Megane, as someone said, they are nice cars. Is it the 106BHP 6 speed diesel??

Sure is, test drove one yesterday and was well impressed. Mind you, I've never had any issues with my 80bhp Diesel Clio since I bought that new back in 2004, especially when I'm getting 65+mpg (I'm a sensible driver you see )

There's a new style of megane coming out at the end of the month so dealers will be trying to get rid of the older style (with the big a$$) as soon as they can. The new design looks nice.

106BHP - Watch out for the Flash in your rear view.. I don't it will be Mr Sayle after his next peice to sell to Megane MOnthly......And they charge £60 without asking for your permission. IF only I could do that with every photo I took......

Yes, I've been invited the launch evening at the local Renault dealer. Why they would think I would be in the market for ANOTHER car so soon beats me....

The Megane is all right if you like driving something that looks like a squashed burger :)

Was watching a program on tv recently about cars and the megane was mentioned, there was a demo on how to change a headlamp bulb on a megane & VW. The megane lost, putting it into the garage to get the bulb changed they were quoted £250 odd quid. Turns out 99% was labour charge as it can take few hours, you got to jack up and take of a front wheel to get to the hidden access panel in the wheel arch behind it to access the headlamp bulb. Apparently you need the grip of a vice, lots of patience and the skills of a gynaecologist to remove the bulb.

Makes it a exoensive headlamp bulb.

 They wont, but they DO want to keep you happy and therefore keep you as paying customer, so go along and enjoy the hospitality, if you are really lucky, there will be a glass of cheap plonk and maybe a bit of cheese and pineapple on a stick in it for you. Oh, maybe take your camera along and ask if you can take a few snaps, they might say no, they might say yes, but never miss an opportunity as it were. ;)

I haven't lost any serious money on a car in 5 years since I saw the light, there are plenty of cheap cars out there, I bought a 05 plate Toyota Rav4 D4D last year for 8k, ran it for 9 months, sold it for 8k, bought a 55 plate Subaru Legacy with 78k on the clock when it was 2 1/2 years old for £3,600 it was 19k new, still got that

I like the Megane but you better pray the headlight bulbs last because it's a right faff to change the bulbs, you have to take a wheel off and open a flap then you need a gynaecologist to chage it for you as you can't see where it goes.

Good crash rating though

Makes it a expensive headlamp bulb.

 Hope you two are winding me up.....

I never ever saw the appeal of a new car..

Just think of the amount of usefull stuff you could buy for £8, 9K or whatever.

Do you not realise you could have a much better car for a lot less money . . . .

Or am I in a minority here ?

 Hope you two are winding me up.....

they are not, one side is an absolute b****r and the other is not straightforward - however a tip, if one bulb blows, get both replaced at once, it will save on the labour cost, because sods law states that as you drive off the forecourt, the other one will blow anway. FWIW, Renault std book time for replacement is 0.9 of an hour for 1, 1.1 hours for two....therefore any garage that is charging 250 squid is a major urine extraction, that is about double what you would pay even in london!! Outside the m25 it should generally be quite a bit cheaper.

I just missed out on a deal on the new Ford Kuga. £995.00 deposit and nothing more to pay for 13 months. Then you can either hand the car back or settle the balance of approx.£16,000

Nope! definitely not a wind up, I'm sure a quick search on google will show the problem. Probably a great car but something you should be aware of when/if you buy one.

Phew, you must have been relieved about that !

Not really, £995 for a years motoring, ok you'd need to tax it again (unused tax refundable) and have it serviced before handing it back. Plus you'll be covered by a warranty and a years AA breakdown/recovery service. I doubt you'll find a years motoring in a brand new or even nearly new car so cheap.

I managed to do the lightbulb without taking the wheels off. Twice. But you do tend to lose some skin on your knuckles.

I've just got rid of my Megane. Hope nothing goes wrong with yours as the really are a piece of french crap. I bought mine new on an 04 plate. Air conditioning was leaking on delivery. Spent a week with them. Within the month I had issues with it that meant it was back in again. This time coils and a whining from the central locking. In the three years of the warranty I think it was back in six or seven times for those two faults. They kept changing coils and bits on the central locking, then it would be fine for a week, before starting up again. Even though it had the history of both faults, when the car went out of warranty they tried to make me pay for their incompetence in fixing my car.

I sincerely hope that you don't get similar issues.

I've now traded it in for something better.

I think you may have missed my (sarcastic) point.

Its my own fault, I can be a bit dry at times :bonk:

As I mentioned earlier, I never saw the point of buying new. I also never saw the point of soft roaders, (but thats a whole new thread), so the mention of a new soft roader was like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey for me....

My car cost £800 and at the end of the year I can keep it because its mine. I serviced it for about £30 and it's broke down once. I fixed it at a cost of £28.

Its not "nearly new" at 9 years, but then its not ancient either.

Also, headlamps bulbs are easy to change and cost about £1.50.

I dont want to invade the o/p's thread anymore, so I'll leave it there....

I'd quite like a new Renault Clio Sport thing ('cos me Escrote deserves a rest) - any of the dealers on this thread care to make me an offer?

Took me an hour to do both and the cost of the lights from Halfords. Lost some skin on my knuckles but cost me about £4.99 from halfords. I have small hands so it may not be as easy if you have large hands. And I am not in the least bit DIY or Mechanically minded, so if I can do it anyone with small hands can.

FWIW I think the Megane is one of the very few cars that Halfords refuse to fit Lights to.....

Don't worry I got it.
My car bought 7 yrs ago cost me £2,000 when it was 4yrs old. It has now done over 222,000 miles, I don't think I've spent more than £1,000 on service and repairs since.
I don't normally like vehicles like the Kuga, but it isn't oversized and I think it looks quite funky.
I've resisted making comments on Renaults so I don't upset anyone. I'll just say I don't like them.:)

Its true, smaller hands make it easier, and of course it can be done at home if you don't mind the scabbed knuckles, I was just pointing out that a garage charging 250 notes is either a complete myth concocted by some TV show for viewer 'delight' or someone has been ripped off. Don't worry, those of us that have to deal with it daily like it even less than the people that own the cars, but the upside is that practice makes perfect...alledgedly :bonk:

I was at my brother in laws 60th birthday lunch three years ago. After the meal had finished we were standing outside all of us chatting. One of his sisters pointing at a Renault Megane said outloud what an ugly car it was particularly at the back. My brother in law then pointed out to her it was his wifes (my sister) car!!!!! Q for his sister to go bright red!!!

Changing the bulbs on my current (diesel) Clio is fairly easy. Although I was asked by an old guy down the street if I could change his bulbs in his petrol Clio. I popped the bonnet and couldn't get to the bulbs from the top as the radiator pipes were all in the way. There was now way that I could get to them unless I went in from underneath the car and I wasn't doing that to be honest.

On the headlight changing stakes, my Disco must come tops: Open bonnet, push headlights from the rear so they pop out. Remove bulb, replace bulb, pop headlights back in, close bonnet. Cost: a few quid per bulb, time less than five minutes to do both sides.

Why do certain manufacturers design cars which force most owners to use the dealer for simple repairs? Oops, I think I've just answered my own question :bonk:

The Meganes from the "Shakin' Ass" adverts always look like they'd been modeled on Kryten from Red Dwarf

So he had paid off £14992? :naughty:

It's like all things, you can get a lemon of any car. My diesel scenic is a late 05 plate (End of July) as of tonight it has just over 121k miles on the clock, and yes it had to go in to have the head light bulb changed, what a pain in the arse, but apart from that I have had virtually no problems. I must confess that I am very pleased with the car and would have another one when I change it in the next few months if it is still on the list for company cars at work.

My favourite depreciator of this week...Jaguar X-type diesel sport estate 06/06 cost £25k new , sold on Wednesday......£4,300 :cuckoo:
