Just bought a 105mm macro lens

Got it today. Will use it for portraits, but looking to also use it for close up work too.
Will likely take close ups of flowers, and hopefully a few beasties.
Just looking for a few hints and tips to get me started with the basics.
Using it on my Nikon D7000.

There's an excellent 'Macro and Close-up' section that should be your first stop. Start with the stickies then ask questions as required.
Your starters for ten:
DoF will be tiny.
Use manual or aperture priority so you can stop the aperture down to f16 or thereabouts.
DoF will still be tiny. ;)
Use a tripod if you can.
AF may not be any help at close distances. Turn it off, set your magnification with the focus ring then move the camera back and forth to get the subject in focus.

I also bought this macro flash system (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sigma-EM-140-NA-ITTL-Macro-Cameras/dp/B00064XR64) which I've had some good results from (to my eye at least!)

It's the sigma 105mm 2.8 os.
 
Does the sigma 105 have a limiter like on the Nikon? I had the Nikon, and used it almost exclusively as a portrait lens. The limiter helped in that sense.
