Had a long day at work this morning, with a 4:30 start on my own department, then over to another store for some training.
As I was a bit tired I bought a couple of cans of Rockstar/500ml energy drinks, keep me pepped up for the training.
Lunchtime I bought two more (Two for a quid, what's a man to do? lol).....

During the afternoon, I kept getting strange feelings. Tingling all over, sort of numbness but not....coupled with what I can only describe as wierd dream like thoughts.
You know that feeling when someone does something during your waking hours that 'breaks' a dream? (IE triggers the memory of a dream)...Well it was like that, but I couldn't remember the dream.
All this time I'm fully conscious of course, and taking notes etc.
After a while though, I had to excuse myself and go and sit in the loos. Breathing heavily, head sweating etc. 5 minutes later it passed and I went back.
We then went onto the shop floor and it did it again, worse. So I went back to the training rooms for a breather then decided to go home early.

I was fine then...until on the motorway I had another 'episode'. Fuzzy tingly all over feeling, fuzzy feeling in my head. Wierd memories like dreams popping into my head (Like I knew what they were but couldn't remember anything extra). (BTW I was fine driving...was in control!)
Made it home and went for a lie down. Had a couple more mini episodes.
I just put it down to tiredness / excess energy drinks.
After an hours nap I got up, had a bit of tea, had another episode, so Louise insisted on taking me to A&E.
Once there, I felt better....knackered and lethargic but better.

Was sat in the triage room, explaining what had happened when all of a sudden I had another funny turn...the worst one. Couldn't think of any words to say...Slumped in the chair, breathing heavily, really sweaty etc.
They got me into a cubicle and ran various tests etc, heart trace, blood pressure, blood sugars etc etc.

Had a good chat with the doctors, turns out I've just had what they call a mini stroke.
I've been prescribed a highish dose of aspirin, and I'm going back for a CT scan, a scan of my neck, and some other tests.
Must say it's kinda shocked me a little. It's stuff you only hear about.

OK it's not a full stroke, but it's a "Oh f*** me..." stop me in my tracks moment for an overweight, lazy 37 year old.

So I may be on and off the next few days. I'm taking a couple of days off work, so will be around on the forums then....but if Lou (who is now being really strict with me!), banishes me from my desk you may not see me :p

Has anyone else had similar happenings?

Well I thought I'd give everyone an update
Yesterday just felt tired, but generally OK.
Had about 10-12 hours sleep last night, which is unusual for me.
Got up and just felt tired all day, bit woozy, bit fuzzy. Went back to bed for a couple of hours for more sleep.
Lou wasn't happy so she phoned the doctors, explained what had happened, what A&E said the other night and they said take me to A&E, especially as I hadn't had a CT scan yet.
Eventually got to A&E, explained I'd had a TIA the other night, still felt very strange. Woozy, fuzzy, extremely lethargic and tired. Speech going slow too, and having lots of moments of memory lapse where I just couldn't think of what I wanted to say.
Doctor eventually saw me, asked me a few questions, held my hands, legs etc, while asking me to push against him etc etc (testing the muscles of either side), then said "I don't think it's a TIA at all, maybe you're just a bit tired".
He made me feel like a hypochondriac. He said "You can keep your TIA appointment for the scan if you want, but I think they'll say the same".
He looked up my rsults from a docs appt blood test last month and said "Your white blood cell count is a little bit high and your cholesterol is a little high, but nothing major".

He then said "Maybe they said it was TIA because you mentioned the droop in the face, and the slurred speech the other night". I said "I didn't mention it, the nurse saw it happen, and she mentioned it".
He then said I was probably anxious and stressed because they said TIA and stroke etc.
He was nice enough, pleasant to chat to, but dismissive that there was anything wrong.
I did say that the other day's 'episodes' weren't normal. Nothing I had ever experienced, and they weren't just because I was a bit tired. You don't slump in a chair unable to speak when you're feeling a bit run down.

So that was it, just dismissed the concerns. I do feel better tonight. Still woozy and what not, and I feel like I could sleep for a week if I wanted to, but I do feel a little bit more energised.
So it's a case of just waiting on the scan appointment now. Not sure whether to go back in work on Monday or not yet....See how I feel.

FYI This post is from last year....I've just copied this in here from the Staff Room where I posted, so I can refer to it in another thread :)
I ended up having about 6 weeks off work or so.

Since then, I've been put on statins and a low daily dose of aspirin. Apparently the CT scan came back normal from what I remember, and I never had any definitive answers. The consensus was TIA (mini stroke) from some of the doctors I saw, but some others said it wasn't.

Transient Ischaemic Attack ................. it's a warning that not everyone gets.

No smoking
Watch your booze consumption
Healthy weight
Healthy diet
Regular exercise - like daily brisk walk etc.

All the best (y)

Missed this when originally posted, hope all is going well for you ... watch the Statins, especially if you start feeling muscle/tendon pains when you might want to research Statin side effects and review the prescription.

Had the same a few years ago...woke up one morning and could not stand up.
Hospital, ct scan, then MRI scan blood tests etc. Nothing in particular showed up. Now on statins and a type of asprin mix twice a day.
I now tend to be less steady than before and sometimes feel a little giddy. But no memory or other problems.
TIA by their nature are temporary, and leave few if any traces. But are certainly a warning on life style. Mind you I am 80, so if it was not one thing it would be another.

Been there done that and got the t shirt...it can really f*** up your day...on a good point it is an early warning which not everyone gets....I am on aspirin, statins plus a couple of other drugs, which keep me steady and sane.
