Just a 'soppy' little black border.

I guess on Flikr with it's black background, the black border would not be visible. You'd then either not need a border. or if your picture was very dark, need a light border.
 
I remember years ago here, most folk gave more crit to the border than the photo.
 
Dave black borders are great if you view "TP" with the default "Day or blue" screen mode, but if like me it's viewed in "Night or black" mode its not so good.

To change the screen go to the bottom left of the page and click on where it says "Day" then change to one of the others. I use "Night" as stated.

Theres a night option? Wow I never knew that. You learn something every day.
 
Try just a really fine one - maybe two pixels on a 1024 wide image.
It can define the edge nicely.
The example shown looks a bit too heavy and dominant for my taste but agree some images can be helped by essentially influencing the background they are viewed against.
Beware of using them all the time unless it's going to be your trademark!
