If you could only have 1 body and 3 lenses what would they be? Money is no object.

I'll start :

Body : 5D Mkiii - Good all rounder! :)
Lens 1 : Canon 24mm f/1.4L II - My street/landscape/Astro/travel lens
Lens 2 : Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II - Portrait/wildlife lens
Lens 3 : Canon 200-400 f/4L IS - Wildlife lens (this was an extremely tough choice, but decided on flexibility)

This is a bit of a fun question, but it really made me think about what i shoot most and what I want to get.... just having 3 lenses made me focus my objectives. The first two were easy, but then it got tough for me!

Anyway, for a bit for fun, what would your set-up be? :)

same a you but swap the 24mm for the Sigma 35 f1.4 art.

I would love the 200-400 if I had the money I would buy it now.
I have a 5D mkiii already

Body - 5D3
Lens 1 - 50L
Lens 2 - 135L
Lens 3 - Ummmmm.......... Don't know. A landscape prime maybe [I use a 17-40L as it is] so Zeiss 21mm, Samyang 24mm or maybe a Canon TS-E or a 16-35L :)

I would keep my

35mm 1.4 zeiss
85mm 1.2 ii
200mm 2

Then say goodbye to 135mm f2 and my 40mm pancake

Oh keep the 5dm3, 1dx is tempting but I like silent shutter

Ok, I'll keep my D800e...

400mm 2.8 VR2 (wildlife & others)

85mm 1.4 (portraits)

24-70 2.8 (as a go-to lens)

Oddly enough... a 5DIII, 24-70 f/2.8, 70-200mm, then a 100mm macro. Some bigger glass sounds tempting, but really this lot does 90% of what I need (the the next one up is sub £200 Samyang 14mm!)

D800E
Sigma 35 1.4
Nikon 85 1.8G

Already got those ^^ so add Nikon 800mm AF-S F5.6

Have some fun with it, then sell it! I could live with just the first 2 if needed ;)

It's nice to hear most people already have their top 3 lenses (or at least 2 of them)! :)

Mine would be a Canon 1Dx, which I would prefer slightly to my 5D3, and lenses would be 24-70 f2.8L II, 70-200 f2.8L IS II (both of which I already have) and then the 200-400 f4L IS with 1.4x converter. That would give me a top class camera with a 24-560mm reach. I doubt I'd need much more, apart from the money to get it of course.

I have Nikon D5100 plus. Nikon 35mm f1.8, Sigma 17_70mm F2.4 macro (favourite lens, covers most things I do, and Nikon55-300mm f 5.6, money no object would swap the 55_300 for a bigger zoom to about 500.

I shoot portraits, so I'd have my D3s, with the 35mm f/1.4, the 70-200 f/2.8 and the 85mm f/1.4.

But I still maintain that if the house was on fire or the Zombies were coming and I didn't have time to grab anything other than one camera and one lens, it would be the x100s that I went for.

Which is good, because I can run much faster with the Fuji than with the Nikon... :exit:

Haha it took a while but got there in the end. Then you start thinking about what else you want as opposed to what you need, that's when the fun really starts!

For me its only a hobbly,
Body 5D MkIII - already have this
100mm macro ( + tubes if thats not cheating ) - already have this
300mm f2.8 is ( + 1.4 & 2x extenders - cheating again ) - would love this lens, but suspect it might be a tad heavy for me. Already have the 300mm f4 is and i'd miss the short MFD on this if I changed to the f2.8.
24-105 f4 - already have this as a walkabout lens.

I'd sorely miss the wide angle 17-40, I could live without my 100-400, MPE & 50mm f1.4.

Interesting that people are going for the 5d mark iii over the 1DX...

Mine would be:

Camera: Canon 1dx
Lens 1: Canon 24-70 f2.8
Lens 2: Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS
Lens 3: Canon 50mm f1.2

And I don't have any of these :-(

For me its pretty much what I shoot with now. A 5Dmkiii a 14mm Samyang, 35mm 1.4 Sigma art, and a Canon 85mm 1.8. Obviously I'd love it if the 14mm and 85mm were the L equivalents, but range wise I'm happy enough.

So your answer really is:
5d mkiii
Canon14mm L
Canon 85mm L
Sigma 35mm 1.4 art

Not sure if everyone is reading the opening question fully?

It does say money no object.
E.g. If you had say £100 million, you wouldn't change your lenses for the L equivalents?

I would have expected people to give more extravagant answers, and some at least to include lenses that cost £10k+ (I can only recall one person doing this with the Canon 200-400mm).

The question is not what your ideal kit is within your current budget, but what you would ideally have if money didn't come into it.

I'd actually looks at the likes of hassleblad or something - but I don't know enough about the range :D

I actually also thought that but also don't know the range.

So I answered it as if it is limited to DSLR and not medium format cameras

Well, it's what you'd have to use forever I guess, and many are satisfied with what they got it seems. Over priced gear doesn't mean it would be suitable for most people. I did however, throw in a €20K lens along with 2 standard :D
