Out today with the 301 and the cute little 35ee - colour and BW respectively - along with a backup electric thingie. Cpiple of issues the first being ... when you buy a camera used and the dude says new batteries, should be good for 30 films? Yeah - no. That's crap, right. So had to nick the batteries out of the Hanimex to hoot the last four frames. No problem really but ... ffs

Secondly, I love the 35ee but that flip lid/flash is such a pain in the butt - you have to get it just right with finger and thumb to raise it - why not a tiny tab at the bottom? Too much to ask? Guess so. I mean yeah, you don't usually shoot a whole film at once whilst also putting the camera away between shots but... jeez  :$

Anyway, now got a couple of films to process, been years so wish me luck. I'll cook them tomorrow:cool:

Yeah - that went well... the colour film totally dark, the BW totally light. Colour film was in the camera already so just shot through, BW was an old one not sure if any good but surely that should have been dark too if so. Checked both cameras and shutters both firing just fine. Odd. I did cross process the colour so both with the same chemicals but again, one dark one light seems to prove the chemicals are OK right?

(Yes, dirty but no point trying to squeegee them cos they are both crap... )

I have to assume the colour film was not in good condition, possibly even pulled out and rewound? Also have to assumw the Hanimex didn't cut the mustard.

Have put a new Kentmere roll into the Nikon and will get that fired off today and see what gives. Pity cos I had some *AWESOME* shots on both rolls... ;):naughty:

Always best to check out a camera with fresh film, even if it's the cheapest roll you can find. At least it rules out the film as a factor in the event there are problems.

Fingers crossed for the Kentmere. (y)

The film rebates are bothering me. They do not get exposed in the camera and should have markings on them - frame numbers, bar codes and such. The colour film looks like it was exposed outside of the camera and the other film looks like it was fixed before development.

I have an F301 and it's not a bad camera, but not nearly as rugged as the professional models. I managed to get a battery holder that takes AA batteries and that gives a much longer battery life than with the standard AAA models.

That clear strip on the right proves that your fixer is OK, but there's definitely been something wrong with the developing phase.

I think fixing happened before developing. Or the developer was just plain water. I have done both before now.

I have just run the Kentmere throught the Nikon, now thinking not developing until I can confirm the developer (FX-39, or Adox by another name) is what it says on the tin, same for the cheapie Jessops fix and stop.

Odd that the colour film is solid and the BW is clear - they's need to be both the same to confirm one cockup or the other, right?

Were the films out of date and stored hot for a long period of time?

Nevermind, heat fogs the film apparently, so that doesn't help your B&W issue.

THIS is what Ilford suggests might be the issue.

The colour film looks clear too - I can see through it in your image. Colour C41 films have an orange film-base, so it wouldn't become colourless in the same way the B&W roll has.

Odd, it's a newly-opened bottle of developer, so should be OK. If it were one film I could say maybe I mixed the chemicals up (toughie as all different colours) but the first film went through as I mixed up the solutions - so film in tank, mix dev. Dev in tank. Dev out of tank into dev bottle, rinse while mixing stop. Stop in tank. Stop out of tank into stop bottle, rinse while mixing fix. Fix out of tank into fix bottle, rinse.

Only sensible and reasonable solution (see what I did there) is developer is shagged. Pooh :oops: :$

Right - just sourced a Tetenal Colortec C-41 pack and a Tetenal BW pack of chemicals. Should be collecting later today. We shall see

I've never developed colour film myself, so could be off the mark here (apologies for my ignorance if so :) ), but wouldn't you be using developer > blix > stabiliser for your roll of colour film? Or am I misunderstanding - it reads a little like you developed the B&W and colour films the same way?

BTW I'm not the expert - the first time I developed a roll at home was only last year and I managed to pour in the stop-bath before the developer!:LOL:
Thankfully I realised straight away and was able to pour it back out, rinse the film in water, and then start again without any noticeable harm being done.

Yeh, that's about it, treat the same as BW but on average add maybe 40-60 seconds extra developing time. Of course you get a less contrasty odd negative that you scan as normal just to BW. It's not perfect but can produce some nice soft tones, which are quite the opposite to that which most BW users tend to aim for.

C41 is way too complicated mostly (yes, I just bought a kit... numpty) and if you can pick up cheapie colour film it's a shoe-in to use the chemicals you already have.

Well that went better... next time must remember that there is a film speed setting and 100 is not right for 400, especially when you only realise after you developed it at 400. No matter, got something which is big plus on earlier.

Tease on the "Paths and Turns" roll shot today around the village.

Kentmere 400, Nikon f301 set for ISO 100 ( ) Tetenal Paranol S at 14 mins.

Opinion on the two dead rolls? Crap/ood chemicals. Dammit.

Well, that one looks reasonable. Can't blame either camera, film or chemicals.

So I have "scanned" these a bit better, here's a few from this over-exposed - because I was set on ISO400 and the FP4 is 125 - set from the Nikon F301 (which will be for sale soon when the Dynax 7 arrives early next week). I will need to sort some better scanning techniques soon
