weekly Judi's 52 in 2014 week 33 and 34 added

Fits the theme, though don't think the smoke stands out enough

On theme, focus is fine and different take on the theme. More smoke would be food but you gotta work with what ya got.

Cheers.

Well done Judi, smoke in the image catches the light well, is nicely lit, making it pleasingly visible (y)

Unusual take on the theme - it's nice to get away from incense sticks. Agree about the need for a bit more of the smokey stuff.

nice close up portrait there Judi - like the complimentary background.

Someone you know, or a random stranger?? I've never had the courage to take shots of people other than my kids!

I've struggled with this one too Judy - we'll just move swiftly on shall we :D

Hi Judi, its different but thats a good thing so top marks for that and its a decent portrait too (y)

A little more smoke perhaps but a pleasing image. He looks like a bloke who lives in my village, I thought you must leave nearby until I saw your location.

My son was born in Beverley when it was North Humberside, now they've changed back to Yorkshire does this make my son a Yorkshireman? Oh no, probably not, otherwise he would already have told me!! :):):):):) Only kidding.

As a portrait I feel you've cropped too much of the head off but it is certainly on theme and captures the act of the smoke coming from the pipe

I like that you went for something different. No Crit from me as I don't know much about portraiture etc, but I like that it's an action one.

Well done Judi... I'm thinking of something along these lines for my shot as I'm struggling to come up with something so far.
thank-you Colin :)

Fitting for the theme, well done for coming up with something different I like it.
Thanks Mandy :)

it was just a quick shot Andy, so was quite pleased with it really :)

As the others really with the smoke, but a nice crop, good colour and well lit, works well for the theme (y)
Thank-you Dark Knight :)

Thanks for looking. He's definitely a Yorkshireman he could play cricket for Yorkshire!!

Nice work so far judi

Love your dogs at play.
and the smoke picture reminded me of my grandad he used to love his pipe but he would go mad when we all used them to blow washing up liqiud bubbles from.

Nice work Judi....I prefer the first cropped image....He does have a gentle presence about him and the pipe only adds to this....nice take on the theme - smoke and a sneaky portrait all in - one. (y)

Hi Judi
Smoke - on theme, good colours and well focussed - he looks really content. The crop on the first did not bother me too much but now you have posted #2, I prefer it - cropped in portrait mode too(y)
Thank you Allan, Chris is at his happiest with his pipe in his mouth.

Reminds me of my Grandad too Simon, i used to love the smell of his smoke when I visited :)

Hi Judi,I like your submission for smoke, bang on theme (y)
My preference is your original cropped version, it focusses the viewers eye on the subject having him fill the frame.

Two good images that fit the theme nicely, and well done on getting the posted so quickly. You can now put your feet up for the rest of the week, I think i have to go with the second image as i prefer the composition, great work i love watching your progress in this challenge.

Thank-you Mandy, I hope that I improve as I go on ;)

I prefer #1, but could do with perhaps a closer focus on the necklace. #2 looks OOF on my screen, but it might be my eyes.

As Mandy said... time to put the feet up... nice shot and I prefer #1 but feel it needs a border or vignette maybe...
the more shots I see the harder this theme is becoming for me...

No.1 for me too Judi, good focus, colours, book pages nice and white (y) If anything, I'm not overly keen on the material bg :)

As mentioned, 2nd looks a little oof to me too  Did you use a tripod? :)

Hi Judi

well done for havin a great go with smoke , no crit from me but I also prefer the tighter cropped image :)

Mineral....#1 for me , lovely white on the pages , the green of the Malachite is glorious (y) Only slight niggle is the lighter greyish patch just below the bottom of the book ...a fold in the material ?
