I decided to meet up with an old girlfriend, Joy. She's still lovely at 35, having worn rather well and she can still kick ass if she's allowed. So I took her out for a spin. I revelled in her smooth shape, built to enable a firm grip on her smooth curves and hold her tight. When her button was pressed, she made a noise that, well, just made me weak at the knees. Seeing through her eyes was a revelation. Big wide and beautiful, she let in the scene and invited you in. Why did I ever neglect her for so long?
That's when I met her twin, Frustration. Frustration is a dumpy roll of a girl who needs persuading to do anything well for you. And they're inseparable. You can't have one without the other... So, as it's been over a decade since I sampled their undoubted charms, I decided to dip my wick once again into their ocean. Having taken Joy out and about, I took Frustration to Clogs, that well known high street outlet that also does prophylactics. An hour later they gave me a seedy disc of Frustration to take home. Here are the results...

Scan 100% comparison.jpg

Tech details are, Nikon FM2, Nikkor 85mm f1.4, (2.8 at 250th). Fuji colour negative 200asa. Lighting nasty fluorescent and daylight mix. Film scanned by me on an old Epson obsolete 4800 flat bed scanner. Film processed and scanned to CD by a Fuji Frontier mini-lab. The moral of the story is get your film processed and scanned by a high end lab, not a high street outlet.

Or just use the shop scans as vague proofs to see which negs are worth doing properly!

True, but probably a false economy. I think the dedicated outlets for process and scan aren't that much more expensive, but I haven't researched them.
