JollyJacks 52 for 2010 - Week 19 - Ingredients

Jon, I tend to agree with the others about the first idea. It does not look particularly "chopped", although much more "out of the box" than the vegetables. However, the vegetables shot is really nice, if less original. It's a lovely warm photo.

Whilst I prefer the second attempt it's nice to see someone thinking outside the box. At the end of the day, it's your take on someting and if it works for you, great. Brave try.

Maybe the plan view with more of it in the frame instead of it being cropped off. If only you could have been there when they were chopping it in half :)

Very nice second attempt (I was confused by what the first was :)). Nice natural light and colours. Not too sure about the vignette/blurring effect, maybe just needs toning down a little in my eyes.

This was a horrible week for me too. Seems like such an easy theme, but so difficult to do anything other than the obvious and make it interesting.

I'm afraid I agree with the original set looking too cluttered and busy, but although I'm in a minority I really like the B&W version of it.

The veggie shot is nicely done, just not very original and for that reason the B&W steam pressure thingy is definitely my favourite.
There's just something about it. I'm having difficulty articulating what it is, but at the same time I'm struggling to see why it hasn't had more positive comments :shrug:

It gets a :thumbs: from me anyway.

The vignette/blurring effect was to draw the eyes to the main area of chopped veggy's, maybe you are right a little over done.

Thanks SarahLee, i had such good comments on the first two weeks i was on a high, i want to do something different, and this teaching aid at work i believed would have been a winner, Maybe if i had alittle more time and could have gone back would have got a better shot, pleased you like the B&W version, I wasn't happy that i had to go back to the chopping veggy's but didn't have time for anything else out of the box.

Maybe we will have better luck with week 4 and we get back on track
 
Well i had alot of ideas this week, some were thinking out of the box and other were just stupid, My out the box didnt work last week so i have done a few for this week and i am sure some you will like.

Thanks Guy's, Sunday night after the theme went online i search street names in my town, but nothing looked good, then i moved out to the next place but still nothing. Had to go around the harbour to Portsmouth to get this sign and i believe it was worth it.

Thanks steven for looking at my flickr page for the other street photo's, The cobble street is in Old Portsmouth, i have another shot not yet posted which i was laying down on the floor getting up close to the road, got some funny looks from a few people living in the houses near by.
 
My favourites so far are poetry and the street sign - two strong entries! I also like the B&W curved shot for week 1.

Your 'Street is a great example for those of us too worried about walking up and snapping a hobo or some drunkards. Simple but effective through good composition and the black and white gives it a nostalgic feel. I like cake :thumbs:

Week 3

It must be an engineer thing but I like your valve pics. Personally the plan view is the best of the bunch. I like the chopped veggies but prefer the valve, it apeals to me more. We have a 'school' in Holland and the main corridoor to the classrooms is lined with Hard disks which have all had the same treatment as your valve, wish I could have popped over there.

RobC it think you are right, my week3 you have to be an engineer of some sort to get what i was after, Thanks for the postive feedback on the valve.
 
Nice ideas Jon, I was thinking Tom Tom oand map for mine when I saw the title :( I need to think a little harder now :D
 
No.1 for me too! Composition and B/W conversion is great, and your wry title is the crowning touch. :clap::clap:

Of those two I'd have to go with the street sign too. I like the idea of the TomTom, but the composition just isn't doing it for me . . . a bit too central and I don't like the way that the map cuts off to the white background. (sorry)

Had a look at your Flickr though and IMO there are a couple of stronger contenders for "Street" there.
The cobbled street is a fascinating shot - really draws you in. Nice angle and lovely perspective to it.
But the one that I absolutely love is that bench shot - both the mono and the colour. I don't know if it was taken with this week's theme in mind, but for me it fits for Street and really is beautifully seen and executed :love:

p.s. Your seascapes and lighthouses are superb :clap: (Just can't think of any way you could crowbar them into street :lol:)

I prefer the street sign to Jon, it's very good. The other works but it doesn't have the same impact.

Well i had been thinking about this all week, even went out and got myself a gorillapod DSLR ( Wish i had got the Zoom Version now ). Biggest problem getting this done in time this week was due to work, Had to work night shifts all week and tonight was the 1st night off.

Sorry about the dirty windscreen will clean it next time, I hope they dont disappoint.
