Good luck on this Jon, sounds easy but I bet it isn't . I dunno how Dave stuck with that 365 but he did, this will be a doddle for him I reckon.

Best of luck Jon. Looking forward to this now :)

hope it goes well, just started a 365 which seems daunting after one day :)

Ok will jump straight in this week with my curved image.

I went to Portchester Castle and climb up this stair case to the roof, as i got half way up i was wondering what the curve of the stair case would look like from different angles,i had taken some from the step on the right but i think this was the best.

What i learnt was to look about abit a view it from differnt angle and points of view.

Hope you like it.

oops need something to hold on to - I don't do heights :gag:
rope gives a nice lead in, as does the central column

Nice one Jon, that is quite a narrow staircase too if I remember correctly ;)

Oooh nice idea, I like it, I'm sure I can have much fun falling down that.

Thanks everyone for the great comments

oops need something to hold on to - I don't do heights

I did hang onto the rope most of the way up

that is quite a narrow staircase too if I remember correctly

It is m8, and i am not the smallest of chaps

I'm sure I can have much fun falling down that.

I near fell down when taking of the shots, its that narrow and steep it gives you a falling feeling when on way down, well it did for me

Good photo but not for someone who suffers from vertigo :shake::shake:

Nice shot mate. I can't help but think it might have a bit more punch with maybe a high contrast B&W conversion? To try and really bring out the texture in the stone.

Thanks all for your kind and constructive comments

it's making me dizzy looking down and i want to jump. The rope does lead you in well.

You do feel abit funny when looking down

but not for someone who suffers from vertigo :shake::shake:

Then you know not to go there

I can't help but think it might have a bit more punch with maybe a high contrast B&W conversion? To try and really bring out the texture in the stone.

Thanks, Added a B&W to photo post

Nice shot Jon, I used the same castle and same stairs in my 365 last year http://www.flickr.com/photos/shrubmonkey/4230566553/in/set-72157623106178888/

Now isn't that strange, I was only about half way up, maybe taking from the top would be better, no brakes in the walls to side rooms

The B&W version is my favourite of the two. I'm still trying to think what to photograph as I don't think they have anything curved upt' north

Great view point, the rope really leads the eye down, as does the stairs. You really get the sense of coming down them :D

Like it. I was trying to think of any buildings near me with curving staircases before you posted this. Need another idea now :bang:

Liking the mono!

Thanks Andy and Sorry i got in there first with the stair case thing

No problem. I have a couple of other ideas.

On nights until Tuesday so can't get any photos done anyway :(

Andy

Great Image Jon, I prefer the B&W one, makes me feel quite :gag: as I do not do hieghts and have a slight (read great) fear of spiral staircases.

Mono version for me without a doubt. It has so much more texture. :)

Nice one, I prefer the BW I think - can't look too long though

thanks for your comments, the looking at it for long periods of time thing seems to be a thing commented on alot, will make sure next weeks images dont have this effect

B&W for me. It also makes me dizzy if I look at it for too long :)

Nono - to get a solid response like that, people would sell their soul! It's a great pic and the fact it moves people, to me at least, proves it.

Cheers Arthur, i would sell my soul to be a good photographer, your comments about responses is right it is great that people feel this way, it give me hope.

Wow! That shot's got some real impact

Welcome to the 52 Jon and what a fantastic start!
I think both versions have merit, but the contrasty B&W just nudges it for me . . . although I do love the warmth of the colour version.

Yes it's making me dizzy, but I love this shot
Your only problem now is that you've set the bar so high to start with that you've got a lot to live up to in the rest of your 52

The Submariner

4259960967_bf05b265a8_o.jpg

I was born on a submarine
I only know what I'm told
About what I've never seen
About warmth and cold.
I was taught to think logically
But I've been beaten too many times
I must hold to sanity
I must worship the sun, the sun.

They told me yesterday
The mechanic is dead
Our vessel is far too deep
Might spring a leak they said.
I know one thing for sure
I do not want to die
Not in this metal house
Not until my eyes have seen the sun.

I live in a submarine
I worship a sun I've never seen.
I live in a submarine
I worship the sun, I do believe.

I do believe...

It's far too late

Week 1: I really like the monochrome version of your image. Very well handled!

Week 2: Very poignant and well thought out!
