Make more sense if you said what lens it is? :)

riight.. its taken at such an angle i thought it might be 400.. i have this lens but you made it look so much bigger and sexier from that angle :)

selling mine in a fortnight :)

A bit front heavy maybe ;)

Looks uber-large on that 1000D (I think that's what it is)

The 400 would have broken the mantelpiece! Wouldn't mind a 7D when they surface, but I'll have fun with this just now and see what's what.

OH MY! what a biggun, I have the f4.0L version of this I can only imagine how good this is

Learning to drive are we:)

Oh and nice lens.

Oh my, what a big one you have sir!

Laudrup (Michael or Brian? ;))

It's not what you've got, it's what you do with it

Or

It's not the size of your Canon, it's the velocity of the shot

Let's see some of your shots with your new baby

LOVELY lens - but may I poss suggest a bit of a body upgrade may be wise?? (Shoot me down in flames if you like - but a 1kD wont do that LOVERLY specimen justice.)

Brian of course! (Rangers fan here). I live about 10 minutes from Loch Lomond so I'll try to get some nice shots and do it justice!

Yeah I was thinking 5D classic or 5D Mk II or 7D. Have to get her birthday out the way first

The only thing I have against Big L lenses is the colour, I would much prefer them to be black.

interesting lens / body combination, is there reason that you stuck a £3K lens on a body that cost 10% of that and can we see some example pics please :)

oh and congrats :D

People are always saying invest in glass, so that's what I did :D I'm really waiting for the 7D, but we'll see.

Because it's his lens and he can do whatever he wants with it.

Anyhow, it makes more sense than a 5DII with a crap lens on it.

Look at it this way, you'll be getting the absolute best possible from your camera  Great photo BTW, it really does look huge!

you are absolutely right i never said it wasn't.
i merely asked a civil question.

it just seemed a little extreme that's all and i hoped there might be a fun reason.

sorry i will try to be more sheep like in future

how do these take a 2x TC anyway? Seems like a cheap way to 960mm :D

Don't worry I didn't take offence, it was a legitimate question (I asked myself the same thing before I bought it :p) It's nice folk take an interest, that's why I like this site!

I'll upgrade the body eventually when I see a good deal, but while I had the money I thought I'd treat myself rather than fritter it away on the girlfriends whims e.g. shoes, clothes and 'romantic' breaks :bonk:

Thanks for the reply Laudrup
your reply makes perfect sense of course and your logical thought in your purchase shows fantastic style :D

:D

I used to feel the same way at one time thinking if only they were black I would buy one!. I actually felt a bit embarrassed when I first ventured out with a 70-200 but now it does not bother me in the slightest, I have even had the 300f4 L on the street before, I am used to the looks I get now:D.

Great lens - you'r e not going to regret that for one second.

It's amazing how many people think white lenses are some sort of marketing ploy by Canon. I often curse the colour myself as not the most suitable for wildlife.

I was out shooting a few weeks ago though, sat for quite a while in strong sun with the camera tripod mounted. The CF tripod was so hot I could barely stand to touch it, and the camera body was warm - approaching hot to the touch. I have a cammo cover on the lens which was quite warm to the touch, but interestingly the white bits of the lens not covered by the cammo were relatively cool.

True that white reflects more heat and heats up more slowly. However they will stabilise at the same temperature after a while.
Nikon and Zeiss and Leica who make equal or better lenses make do quite well with Black. I remember seeing some Minolta white lenses.
